Hi Shezz, like many people with Bronchiectasis, I have infections on a semi-permanent basis. They have scarred my lungs severely, completely covering my left lung to the extent that it's invisible on X-ray and not functioning any more.

What you can do about it probably depends on what your diagnosis is. If you have been diagnosed with IPF or PF, then there are two drugs which are used to slow down fibrosis. If the scarring is just from regular infections, then getting long term antibiotic treatment and prophylactic antibiotic treatment will help.

Hi. My hubby as the same thing and was diagnosed 3 years ago. He has done well and not deteriorated much in that time. They tried various meds to get his coughing and infections under control and he's doing well on syimicort. He hardly uses his ventolin now and has a lot less infections. You could get a transplant but my hubby is 72 and the cut off age is 65. There is people on here with Ipf that could tell you much more than me. Best wishes. xx

Hi Shezxx I have Pulmonary Fibrosis and have been prescribed Co-Trimoxazole a long term antibiotic and have been infection free for for over a year. I think this medication has helped a great deal.

I also take other precautions such as keeping away from people with infections, using antibacterial hand wash, eating healthily and generally looking after myself.

Wishing you better health.

John
