Would just like to introduce my self. I have COPD. I'm on Oxygen for 16 hours a day, I have stopped smoking for three weeks, after forty odd years. but I haven't felt any better. In fact I feel worse. Will this improve ?

Thanks Kathy this is the longest I have packed in for and I have done it could turkey. Its just that I have just got over a chest infection, and I seam to be more dependent on my Oxygen since I packed the fags in.

Hello Spike, nice to meet you 😁 I think stopping smoking effects most people that way...it will take time but you will feel better for not putting poison into your body, I don't think I would still be here if I hadn't stopped. 😁 huff xxx

Hi spike, you'll gain a sense of taste, lose the smell of smoke, exercise harder (with pockets full of cash) and get your shape "redefined" well, I did - something to do with food suddenly tasting good!

It took years for you to get properly addicted so, please, give it a few more weeks - like everything, its worth waiting for!

Good to meet you!

You've done well so far so, stick with it - things do get much better! It just takes a while for your body to clear out all the gunk the nicotine leaves behind. Keep up the good work and - good luck to you.

welcome to the site, yes please don't worry it will improve. After years of smoking your body needs to readjust it's self to having no nicotine. I had the same problem, but so pleased istick to not smoking,I feel so much better now.

Greetings :)  Look at it this way, Spike...  Your body has had 40+ years of expecting (and getting) lots of crap shoved into it; suddenly, it's gone.  Your body's saying "Oy, whatchadoing????"

What you're doing is making your body's life absolute hell so you're almost bound to feel worse.  That's the bad news.  The good news is, once you're over the initial craving for those fags, once you've coughed your guts up, once you're starting to see daylight at the end of that tunnel, you'll start to feel better.

Don't know how you've managed to smoke and be on oxygen though; they aren't a good pairing (boom!).  Mind you, I still get cravings for a fag; I try to run upstairs and am instantly cured of the craving.  Not that I can actually move, you understand (I'm on LTOT as well) - but sudden exercise works wonders for cravings :)

Hang in there -- you will feel the benefits, promise!!

Keep going Spike,  Oxygen and fags don't mix anyway...............however the cravings don't go away............. sometimes I am like the Bisto kids when I pick up the distance smell of a fag in the air...........good luck.

Thanks for all the reply's, Funny thing is I haven't had the cravings, The Steel works closed down near me last year. And when I had my breathing test at the Doctors the nurse noticed a slight improvement in my breathing. So I'm hoping for a big improvement with out the fags. Thank you for all the support . I think if the truth be told this is probably the first time I have wholeheartedly stopped.
