Pensioners petition

juney_99_antique profile image

I have everything to get into this "pensioners' petition" but am being redirected each time to the British Lung Foundation home page. Does someone not want me to sign this petition?

Why did he delete it? Sounds like a good cause to me. Or am I missing something?

You'll have to ask Graham that. There are 14 signatures in 3 days. Robin

The distribution of income between all of society is determined by Government policy and affects the indigenous population and immigrants alike, many of whom have come here to do vital jobs within the NHS, fought for the UK in world wars and are almost all happy to work hard and add to the wealth of society, unlike a hard core of work shy British born scroungers who do nothing but take from the hard working majority. Until we recognise the real enemy within we will always find someone to blame for society's ills, and the none ethnic immigrant is an easy target. To highlight them as the reason for the poverty of UK pensioners is indeed racist, but is regularly trotted out by the right wing reactionary press.

PS Despite claims to the contrary by George Osborne, the National debt has increased every year since the Tories came to power. When he refers to reducing the debt, what he really means is reducing the rate of increase in the debt. The UK national debt is £22,000 per head, almost identical to the economic basket case which is Greece.

I thought it was Pats petition?

I think the above seriously misrepresents Graham/Pat's petition.

'. . . this Country has enough Money for our M.P.'S for their massive pay increase and to pour out of this Country in Foreign Aid, £550 million pounds per day just to belong to the European Union not counting all the extra Demands from them . . . we pay out more in means testing for Benefits than the people receive in Government Departments cost's which is needed to carry it out . . . when Migrants receive more than our Pensioners then some thing is seriously wrong, please support this Petition and MAKE THEM LOOK AFTER OUR PENSIONERS.'

'. . . poverty among pensioners is rife in Britain, with 1.6 million living below the poverty line and a startling 900,000 living in “severe poverty. . . .'

It could be argued that your post also misrepresents Pats petition.

No-one has said that the petition is not worthy in saving our pensioners.

The issue is the use of phrases such as

"migrants receive more money than pensioners" and

"this Country has enough Money to pour out of this Country in Foreign Aid"

As for using the RT.com link, you could have quoted:

"The charity’s (Age UK) research reveals the single biggest cause of pensioner poverty in Britain is older peoples’ failure to claim from the £5.5bn state benefit they are entitled to. These benefits would amount to an extra £1,700 per year, or £33 per week, for the claimants in question"

No sure what you're asking. You said to me:

"It could be argued that your post also misrepresents Pats petition."

I was responding to that.

Oh sorry, my mistake..

I was just trying to explain what I think the issue with the petition was. I believe the problem was the implication (conscious or not on Pats part), of migrants and foreign aid being at fault for low pensions.

in reply to Gary56

One signatory says "These incomers, particularly asylum seekers, seem to stay on benefits for the rest of their days in this country". The ignorance and prejudice of such people is phenomenal. They are beneath contempt. And Pat herself says those in power show no respect to pensioners "while giving away million of pounds weekly to Foreigners". Ah yes, lets blame those dreadful foreigners. At least there are only 19 signatories in 6 days. Robin

Stilltruckin, you have the wrong June here. I used link which you kindly sent me for the petition. I signed and shared and that is it! Made no comment at all. Must be another June on this site! Cheers

June, I did supply the 'missing link', but have not made any comments on anything you've said. What exactly are you referring to here?

juney_99_antique profile image
juney_99_antique

The June in question is definitely not me! I simply asked how to get to the petition and used link sent to me from Stilltruckin. That is it!

If you read my post again you'll see I was quoting from Pat's comment on the Petition, which says "I support this Petition as our Pensioners cannot fight back for themselves, it never matters who is in Power they always treat Pensioners as second class citizens, they show them NO respect what so ever while giving away million of pounds weekly to Foreigners". It's a bit odd her making a comment on her own petition though. R

Why do our leaders give themselves massive pay rises whilst denying that to others? Why do millionaires get tax cuts which save them £42,000 a year? Why are big companies like Starbucks, Google, Amazon allowed to avoid their full taxes?, why are celebrities like Jimmy Carr, Gary Barlow, Wayne Rooney etc. allowed to use tax loopholes to avoid their taxes? I read that this loses the country £120 billion a year. There would be plenty of money for pensioners and no need for austerity cuts if this money was collected.

Absolutely right Cough. The problem is the unfair distribution of wealth as determined by Government fiscal policy, nothing whatsoever to do with immigrants or foreigners.
