Thanks for responding jimmyg23 . Yes they seem to work wonders I've found out in COPD UK . I certainly look.forward to getting rid of my phlegm :) As the huffer techniques didn't help me :( ...

Thanks Angie 😆

You'll find many here get a lot of benefit from this. But it doesn't work for everyone. If you have trouble coughing up thin mucus then its less likely to work and it made me quite ill. But definitely worth a try as my impression is it works for more people than it doesn't :)

Hi Mizzymac, I use carbocisteine when I get problems with too much phlegm in fact I am taking it this week. It works for me and no side effects. Dave from the LoS.

Carbocisteine does shift the gunk but I did have a bad reaction. Not everyone does but in my case my gums softened and the teeth moved around and was constantly biting myself and difficulty with eating. Consultant changed me to Atrovent inhaler and it works perfectly. It took several months for my mouth to settle down and now all is well.

Hope this help's

Yep - join the Carbocisteine Club folks ! - that coupled with a few minuets on the " "Flutter " device to start things moving - works a treat on me, and up it comes ! but, as we are all different , this may not be the answer for everyone, but , from what I've heard, may be the majority ! ... so give it a try and good luck Mizzymac.

Same here mizzymac, on clarith grrrrr.

Many take Carbocysteine including me. I've found it invaluable and 100% sure it has helped me stay infection free for much much longer.

Mind you, it takes about three weeks to start working so persevere. Because it takes an age to 'kick in' we take a maintenance dose and just increase it when necessary.

No side effects to report - and my body is a woosse (as well as a temple)!

Good luck with getting well.

I have taken it for a year or so.......but I don't take as per instructions.

I just don't feel my chest /lungs warrants that.

So for me each morning I have 2 capsules, and that keeps me lovely & clear till the next day.

I have been using them for years without problems but I have never been convinced they do a great deal!! One of our local Doctors actually suggested that putting my head over a bowl of steaming water and a towel was just as effective in clearing mucus. IO still take them just in case they are doing any good.

I use them four times a day.

They help thin mucus in your lung and assist in getting it up and out.. I have had no adverse effects in using.

Hi I'd like to thank everyone for replying to my question. Thankfully I've been taking them for a few days now with great success no side effect which is great . they really loosen up my phlegm which is great as I've had a problem with it since I quit smoking ! One year six months ago going from heaps of it to none but been there just not able to get it up was very frustrating. It was the nurse who done the assessment for my nebuliser who told me about them . I decided to ask doctor for them once I went up with this chest infection . Glad to report I am on the mend starting to feel better . Thanks to my rescue pack if I didn't have them my chest would of been a lot worsh by the time i seen my own G P .

Hope everyone has a breath easy day . Angie xx

Hi ,I was prescribed them last year as I was producing a lot of mucus but struggling to shift it , awful as it is and awful as it sounds ,,,,,it was very sticky and it made me feel as I was gagging( choking ) effects,,,,, the tablets make the mucus less thick & sticky ,so it's easier to get up/out ,I had no side effects,I was told to take 2 tablets 3 times a day ,and once I was a lot better I gradualy reduced them ,,,,at the moment I'm not taking them as touch wood I'm not producing much mucus and so don't need them ,if they are not helping you ,,,ask for a flutter device ,that helps cough up the mucus to ,it's like a small pipe to look at ,simple to use you just breath into it ,

Best wishes ,hope this has helped ,
