Hi group new user. I had a Pluerectomy, Pluerodesis and wedge resection 2 weeks ago (following spotaneous pnuemothorax - while sleeping) . The pain management team put me on a morphine drip initially, and then reduced that to morphine capsule for a few days then finally 30/500 Cocodamol for a base with 50Mg Tramadol top up as and when necessary. When I left the hospital the doctors/ pain mgt team prescribed the same and advised my GP by letter to continue the pain managememt plan until I return in 6 weeks time.
The GP refused to prescribe. Offering Paracetamol and Tramadol or Cocodamol alone. I was stunned at this, especially since the hospital have not yet discharged me. (Awaiting results from a biopsy) the GP also declined to answer any questions regarding the procedures told me to pose them to the hospital on my return.
I was diagnosed with Emphysema in 2010. I am not on any medication of any kind. I don't have asthma or any other breathing condition. I am a keen hill walker and regularly tear up and down the national cycle routes on my beloved mountain bike...I am apparently very unlucky.

It certainly sounds odd, Frank. Can you contact the pain management team or hospital doctor by telephone and ask for advice? If not, I would ring the BLF helpline, or email them, (contact details available if you click the red balloon, top right) as they give great advice. Good luck with it all. x
I would be inclined to phone the Secretary for your Consultant and explain the situation to her. Ask her to inform your Consultant as a matter of urgency.
Your GP should not have altered your hospital prescribed medication, and especially by not telling you why.
Welcome to the site FrankG and your first post did not make pleasant reading. You are certainly unlucky to have such health problems but also to have a GP with attitude. Welcome to the forum FrankG. As suggested, contact your consultant. My GP at the time I was diagnosed I found a bit uncaring so I changed to my present one who is really good.
Welcome Frankg sorry to hear your GP changed the hospitals advised prescription for medication. You ought to try contacting the hospital about this. Although it is not unusual for Gps to change hospital advice. I don't agree with this way, hospital, GP and other medical staff should work in conjunction to obtain what is best care & treatment for the said patient. Hope you get it sorted quickly and your health does not suffer as a result of the change. Best Wishes
Welcome indeed! Your GP's attitude is out of step. phone the hospital and state that she refuses to implement what's been prescribed, especially as you haven't been discharged.
Good morning group. Thank you to all who replied to my post earlier. I'm on my way to a meeting this morning with a new GP practice, nurse for a medical and then a GP appointment. I haven't had much change since the Last post, I am still waiting on a responce from the Hospital, though I suspect this is likely to be very soon. Hopefully I will have a better experience going forward. Have a nice day y'all.
