The past few years has been hell trying to cope with copious mucus and I seem to think most of it comes from my nose region, now I feel like when I eat food is going up the back of my nose, any comments grateful.

Thanks

HI Carolg, That's sounds horrible! My husband suffers with severe COPD and does go through stages of having to deal with "copious mucus". Have you been to your doctor? It might be worth a visit or another visit if you already have. Also perhaps a call to the helpline (red balloon in corner shows the number) - they might have better advise. Good luck and take care, TAD xx

Thanks Tad told docs about it a couple of times, just shrug shoulders and say its your copd, everything gets that answer !!,xx

Nose spray from doc? Recommended by my ent consultant who put camera in nostrils to check no polyps. Also plenty water does seem to dilute it. Maybe rhinitis or something so think antibiots can help.....def worth asking for ent appt.

My consultant described it as 'back-drip' I have to clear my nasal passages constantly but I find that Mucodyne is a great help, I am on 3 caps / day. The mucus is very sticky and elastic (like a bungy) and hard to shift, when spat into a shiny sink it hangs on like a limpet.

If you are not taking Mucodyne ask if you can give it a try, Good luck !

The mucus could come from reflux which many with copd have as the drugs can cause it as a side effect. I have the same mucus dukes describes above (I like the bungey comparison!) and lots of post-nasal drip, often produced by food almost instantly.

So you could ask you GP about possibility of reflux. Hope you get it sorted.

My consultant has prescribed Lansoprazole to clam the reflux. It works. But I also have a hiatus hernia and an umbilical hernia. It's painful now that I have tried to cough mucus up.

I have the same and have had reflux for many years. I can put my head over a toilet and and it just drips continually. I have bouts of coughing up clear slime as well. I take a white peptic when I get that.

yes I take 30mg lansoprozole twice daily - important to take it or other medication to prevent the stomach acid causing barrette oesophagus, precancerous condition in the throat caused by acid burn.

If anyone knows of good natural antidote to reflux please let me know. I eat lots of spices which are good for alcolizing the body - cinnamon, cumin, ginger etc, but Id love not to have to take the lansoprozole.

Hi O2 Trees. Both my Husband and I take Omeprazole for reflux. It is very good. I have a Hiatus Hernia and the acid was burning my gullet. I had pain so bad my Husband thought I was having a heart attack. Since taking Omeprazole I have had no more problems. You may ask to try that.

The lansoprozole i take is just another version of the same class of drugs - ppi or proton pump inhibitors. I used to take omeprazole but it didn't work so well.

Had this condition for 25 years. Stopped smoking, had numerous ops on my nose without any improvement. Only thing that helps me swallow food is to drink alcohol before a meal but by doing this it has practically made me an alcoholic.
