Blood pressure

Just checked my blood pressure and it is 165 over 85. Pulse rate 92. Is that a bit on the high side or am I getting it wrong again?

Possibly - but as a one off reading don't get too worried. Keep an eye on it and if it continues go and check it out. Also depends on whether you are calm and rested or rushing about. LOL It seems we are all a bit out of kilter at the moment - is it catching reading blogs I wonder? :) xx

Not too sure could check with the blf nurse or practice nurse. My doc told me pulse should not be over 100, but mine nearly always is. Blood pressure can go up after using certain inhalers especially salbutomol. I think a normal bp is 160 0ver 90, but no expert so if concerned best to check with a medical person.

If you have been chasing after that guinea pig that will put up your bp lol xxxx

Here's a link to a blood pressure chart Bobby. It is on the high side but as Scrobs says, it can be just a one off. I'd see my gp though if it continues.

Ha Ha The guinea pig is in a right fit with me. I forgot to take him his breakfast till 12 and he has got a real touch of the grumps now. I was just a tad worried about BP. I think I am usually about 135 over 75 if I remember correctly.

If that is your normal and when you take it again (like now) and it is still as your earlier one was then you must contact your doc a leap like that is not right xxx

I was a bit out of kitter at the weekend. No chest infection although coughing up more than I usually do. No appetite couldn't eat anything at all Friday tea. Felt just a bit grotty Saturday especially. Can't check anything havn't got the equipment, I'm not sure Bobby what those readings mean, expect someone knows. Maybe it is catching scrobbitty reading poorly blogs.

Wish I could be more helpful.

As a one off reading it may just mean your a bit up tight. Its about what your normal average readings are, so as suggested above keep a regular check on it and if it remains this high persistently than you need to see the doctor, best to take it morning and night for about a week. The Gp usually does this anyway if you go to them before they do further investigations. Don't panic that will make it worse.

Thanks Katie. I think I will start taking it at the same time every day and do a chart tyo show my GP. Thanks again.

What happens when I go to the surgery, they take B/P three times, and record the best of three. I have hit on the idea of doing it before I leave home, and taking the machine with me. It does tend to rise walking down the corridor.

My Doctor gave me parameters for my blood pressure - I take tablets - and if there is too much variation I have to contact the surgery. Maybe your Doctor could do the same.

Thanks Jan. I will do me little chart then ask the GP. I already have an appointment for Friday.

My doctors always want mine under 140/90 - I've got problems with the diastolic pressure, it sometimes goes over 100. Your systolic pressure is fairly high Bobby, but as we age it does tend to increase apparently.

I'd ask your doc if I were you.

Need we ask more about the high BP reading :)

I've had a reading of 140/90 before & was told by one of our local GP's that it's a normal reading for some one of the age of 44 at the time it was taken then another doctor told me it could be better & the nurse at our local GP surgery said it should be at 135/85 so it's quite annoying not knowing exactly what it should be! But I'l also take a look at the blood pressure chart that Libby 7827 has kindly given us the information to look up! Thank you!

Hi Philip's! yes the reading you have does suggest it's quite high but then it does also alter through out the day depending on what your doing, please keep an eye on it if you can't get it to come down by relaxation or a good walk as that sometimes helps!it also depends upon what causes your BP to go up, some people feel much better after having a good long walk & others feel worse, you will need some help urgently if you can't get it down, be it from your GP or by Natural medicines, you could try Hawthorn tea that is for hypertension which I find quite calming, best to drink straight though with no sweetner's, sugar or honey just plain,it might work its not for every body, then there's Hawthorn berries from Holland & Barrets! Good luck!

Hi twinks! I looked on the packet I have it doesn't say how many times a day to use it, but if I were you I would just only use it once in the morning & once in the evening each day to be on the safe side I'd check it out on the internet if you have I will have a look online as well & let you know! it say's to brew for 5 minutes but doesn't mention anything about side affects, I'm going to check it out after reading my emails & will email you later & let you know asap!

Hi twinks! I have found out some useful info about Hawthorn & other herbal teas that are suppose to help! Hawthorn tea you can drink up to 2 to 3 times daily that's half a cup 2 to 3 times a day, brew for 5 minutes,Alfalfa tea drink one cup six to seven times a day would you belive & marigold one cup twice a day! doesn't say much about side affects except there rare or unless you have any prescription medicines, or health problems check with your doctor first! also Ginger & olive leave's & Garlic especially is very good for hypertension if you just look up online how does Garlic & these other ingredients help to lower blood pressure it tells you how & what to do! I hope this is helpful! I'm closing down for the night now but don't hesitate to contact me if you wish to, am happy to help, please let me know how it helps for you if it does! don't know if you have tried any herbal tea yet, but good luck & have a good night!

Sorry twinks I forgot to add the side effects though rare for Hawthorn but it appears to be mainly in tablet form that u get side effects its not saying much about the teas but just in case here is the list, dizziness ,vertigo, headakes, migrain's & palpitations. I have drank Hawthorn tea & I was fine with it it tastes a little bitter but it can be bearable in time if drank often enough,I found it had a calming effect,Goodnight!
