Vascular consultant recommendation

Hello,

I was recently diagnosed with Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). Due to long waiting lists at my nearest hospitals, I have received a letter from the NHS trust suggesting referring me to a hospital further afield. If I am going to have to travel, I figure I might as well have a look at hospitals other than the ones that they suggested (which are a fair distance away already).

To that end, would anybody recommend (by private message please) their vascular consultant/surgeon in West or East Sussex, Surrey, or south/central London please?

I don't have any experience of vascular consultants/surgeons, but from experience with endocrinologists know that they can vary dramatically - whether vascular consultants/surgeons vary as much I do not know (hopefully, they are all great!)

Many thanks

Community rules discourage members from sharing specific names and other details under 'anonymity' as below, and you therefore run the risk of this post being taken down if it is populated with lots of names etc .....

Anonymity

Avoid disclosing real names of any treating doctors or nurses, specific hospital teams, or personal details of others within or outside the community.

However that may not extend to private messages. 😉

Hi there JumpJiving 👋

Do you mind me asking, what were your symptoms, and how old are you?

Sonny657

59 years.

The symptom that made me go get checked out was painful feet and lower legs after resting in a chair with my feet up in the evenings. On getting up, I would walk across the house as if walking bare foot on sharp gravel. Also ache in buttock and loss of hair on parts of legs.

I should be pretty low risk for PAD according to list of risk factors, but since diagnosis of PAD I have improved diet to reduce LDL cholesterol (which wasn’t particularly high before). My suspicion is that cortisol levels might be involved (I have a diagnosis of tertiary adrenal insufficiency, which I am in the process of reversing), but adrenal insufficiency is poorly understood so finding anybody who could confirm/deny that based on scientific study is likely to be a problem.

I see. I'm not familiar with PAD, what actually is it? Is it a clot somewhere in the artery?
