I went up to London yesterday for the funeral of a friend who had died from a massive heart attack. Yes, it was sad that he was not there, but seeing a lot of our mutual friends I have known for thirty years or more was wonderful. It made me think how grateful I was to the surgeons and staff at Southampton Hospital to have been given a second chance at life. I hope I never forget to be grateful, but lift a (small) glass to Chris and all the others that didn't make it. Until we meet again, my friend.

I too am extremely grateful to the surgeon who carried out my 3xCABG. Just after surgery I had my own pity party, poor old me. Since then, Dec 23 I’ve lost three guys from school who’ve literally dropped down with massive heart attacks. One was an ex pro footballer who was super fit. We indeed are the lucky ones who they managed to get to the operating theatre before a catastrophic fatal event. Glad you’re still with us.
Thank you for this it reminded me that I too recently went to a funeral of a friend of 30 years plus - his best friend couldn’t be there as he was having heart surgery . I too sent a silent thank you to the Royal Brompton and their amazing staff that I’m still around . 3 years on I try to remember how very lucky I am to still be here and to live my very best life . Yes the NHS has its problems but boy am I grateful for their service.
'morning cabgpatch, sorry to read your post about your friend. During a pacemaker implant when it went wrong, the pacemaker team immediately called in the cardiac team to the theatre to urgently rectify the problem. I know things could have easily gone wrong and I'm grateful to both teams that I'm still here. Take care.
