I've been having trouble with my blood pressure over the years. It's been very high for some time, but has gotten worse.
To the point where I passed out and collasped back in October due to Postural Hypotension, and broke my leg and ankle because of the fall.
Even though I've always had high blood pressure, so that was a shock to be honest.
I was in hospital for over two weeks to get it back up from 48/29 to normal. Which it did but still dropped again low. So went on meds to increase it. After a few more days, I was better and discharged.
We shall fast forward to January 2025, where all of sudden I could feel my heart racing all the time, but didn't do anything about it to be honest. Stubborn bloke.
But I was gradually feeling tired all the time, sweating buckets at night, but dehydrated every morning.
So I started taking my blood pressure again, and this time it was 288/140 and down and up all the time.
I got in at the GP that day, and he checked the bp and called an ambulance and sent me to A&E. I was there two days, and they stopped the Hypotension meds, and reintroduced 3 meds for the hypertension. Which were stopped in October.
But my blood pressure is still over 200/130 at times. And the focs worried about that it may trigger low bp again. So its a catch 22, situation...
I also read that I have cardiovascular disease 10 year risk score of 47.2%. Which i just dont understand. Is this all caused by high bp. Most of my family has passed away before age of 60 of heart problems, and I'm 53 years of age.
So I've no clue what to do.

Years of high blood pressure , what were you doing about it over those years ? Maybe speak to the BHF nurses by phone or chat line on Monday. Run everything by them. I’m sure you do have a clue what to do , any small changes that you can make to help your health are an obvious thing to start/research. Plan your nutrition . Plan some future goals. Get looking in the BHF website. Deffo keep in touch on this forum 👍🏻 Being a stubborn bloke won’t cut it in the face of many serious conditions , we need to own it and act. Glad you’ve reached out 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻. I’m sure there’ll be others chipping in soon .
Ive been taking various medications to bring the bp down, over the years. Which works, then I got postural hypotension. And collasped. It goes very low when standing.
But goes very high after a short time. Which the docs are trying to sort out. He said its combination of tablets to try and get it to some sort of good level.
I was a runner at one point, used to do several marathons and half marathons. But was getting out of breath, and I eventually stopped. I just put it down to old age, and weight gain.
I have put on weight, but not loads. Maybe a stone, but I'm still fit. I walk everywhere really, but I've had to slow the walking down. As get out of breath sometimes and tired.
It's mainly hereditary. As no one makes it past 60, really. They've all passed because of heart problems.
I did ignore them for a bit. As I had other problems to fix. But I am getting on board as such to try and rectify this.
Before my diagnosis for atherosclerosis my risk score was 50%. I was pre diabetic with slightly raised tryglycerides and LDL. I was also overweight with family history for heart disease and raised blood pressure. From my research I was metabolically unhealthy and insulin sensitive
I reversed my diabetis and lost 5 stone and my risk score is now 15% which is attributed to age and now I am metabolically healthy. My Hb1ac score has went from 98 to 33 during this time and I have had a double bypass with one of my blockages at 90% in the widow maker.
I lost weight also. Through not eating crap basically, like bread and pastry. But I was a fit bloke at one point, doing various marathons and half marathons.
But stopped as was getting out of breath and tired easy, and put it down to old age and left it at that.
And the bp over the years just gradually went up, had meds. And then it stabilises, but then goes up again over time.
If I read your post correctly you're not taking any blood pressure medication at the moment.
If so, I suggest you ask your GP to get you on something that will regulate your BP, keep it stable. It shouldn't be bouncing up and down all the time.
As others have said, you really mustn't ignore this especially given your family history of heart problems.
I ignored my breathlessness or put it down to getting old but it due to the arteries around my heart being 90% blocked. Eventually I had to have a triple bypass. Just in time, I think.
I'm taking meds. They stopped them at one point because of the postural hypotension. But that med, has pushed the bp very high, so stopped that, and restarted the normal bp meds. But it still gets to over 200 at times, and even got to 288 at one point. But has come down to just over 200.
