Hi all, I've suddenly started getting short episodes of raised heart rate. It occurs at rest or exercise and will shoot up from 64 to 90 plus. The highest it's gone is 130. It lasts between seconds to a few minutes and then drops back down to normal. I can feel it in my throat when it happens and it frightens me. I do take 5mg bisoprolol for anxiety and have recently started on duloxetine for an anti depressant and nerve pain issues. I'm not overly anxious but am a worrier especially about health. Do you think this needs investigating or should I try to relax more? Thank you for reading.

When you say "recently started on duloxetine" do you mean within the last weeks, or months ago? I think many of the SSRIs/SNRIs can have a bit of a bumpy start-up. I was given 10 Xanax to take as needed when I started on escitalopram, though I was lucky enough not to have any side-effects.

Bisoprolol is a cardiac-specifc beta blocker. They also have generalised beta blockers (I think propranolol is the most common) that you might want to ask your clinician about. I have one daughter who takes propranolol every day (for anxiety & migraine prevention) and one who takes it only when she gets a panic attack.

I started on 30mg 3 weeks ago, replacing sertraline 100mg. I have now been on 60mg for about 1 week. This is trying to relieve issues with pinched nerve and bulging disc in back.

That seems short enough that it could be the ramp-up in dosage of the SNRI. (But I'm no doctor, and I've never even played one on TV.)

HaHahaha. Thank you for replying. I will look into the propranolol.
