Post procedure advice contradictory. Am I silly to be scared of taking a flight for an hour to Dublin for work ,2 weeks after my procedure?Just been slowly walking and off work.I am a classical freelance Doublebass player.
Would love to hear if anyone else has this experience.

Thankyou So much for your message ! Thanks to the lovely BHF nurse who suggested joining thus forum!! I think I am going to stay close to home for a bit longer and stay close to home.
Good morning, I'm actually just sat after my ablation yesterday & will be discharged in 10 mins. The flying rule on my discharge paperwork is 4 weeks, driving 48 hrs, dog walking 48 hrs, gentle exercise class 10 days, playing saxophone 1hour 🤣🤣....well October 5th is my next gig but no blowing for about 3 weeks. Relax & be sensible & don't hesitate to call your support team of hospital if you feel unusual or unwell. I would say don't be too hesitant tbh. Good luck 🤞
😂Brilliant ,thanks and goodluck!!take it easy! Yes going to not work and fly next week. Not quite brave enough , would only 2 weeks , though consultant said he was happy for me to go .. amazing what they do and have done ! Keep strong and well and warm! 😊
hi , I flew away on holiday two weeks 1 day after my ablation. My discharge notes suggested no flying for 2 weeks but I have seen other hospitals say one week or even 4. In the end I had to see a doctor to obtain a doctors letter saying I was fit to fly otherwise the travel insurer would not reinstate my cover. The doctor checked that the puncture wound has healed (no lump) and said absolutely no reason why I should not fly. For peace of mind I would get checked over by your doctor. I felt fine 3 days after the ablation but recovery times vary Best wishes Lexi
Thanks so much Lexi ,wise words.I have not been able to get an appointment to see a GP yet but we did manage a phone call and she did not want to give an opinion ,wanted me to keep trying the Consultant .I guess it's such a minor procedure to them but to us its scarey.I have just got out on my work next week and so wont be flying and I hope to see GP next week.Strange to get such contradictory advice..feel a bit of scarey cat! Some of you posters sound so brave! Amazing what you are going through!
I have not run since last Nov. Wonder when I should start trying again..knowing how out of shape I am..I desperatly want to start again,it used to save me at low times and I , being bereaved ( I lost my dear Roger from Prostate Cancer 3 years this coming Sat.14th) I want to positively start trying again..
Are there any groups that help, like monitored recovery ..running safely support..( not quite sure how to word it😂) I am non techy ( stone age) but want to do charity runs for Roger , Guys Cancer and of course BHF 🥰
I still run but just 5k now (used to do half marathons). If you get a chance I would ask the consultant what you can do safely in terms of exercise . I was told in my case I could do most forms of exercise (including running) but not weights or high intensity. But what is appropriate and safe will vary depending on your individual condition. I would build up slowly . I did not start jogging for over a month after the ablation. Have you tried the BHF nurse helpline? I have called them once and they were very helpful.
Yes they have been helpful in the past and that a good idea...I feel my consultant is a bit busy but I guess an email doesnt hurt.😊Thankyou ..and well done for starting again ! 🏃♀️5k sounds great to me.
