Sternum pain when coughing

I had a triple bypass just over a year ago. Recently when I cough and sneeze I am have started getting pain in the centre of my chest, again presumably where my sternum was opened. Has this happened to anyone else?

the muscles around the sternum are very tender and we all heal differently. Probably worth getting it checked out if it continues, I had ongoing problems for a number of years and eventually was given some medication which has helped. (Op Oct 19).

It took at least a year or more for the sternum pain to cease. It was brought on by lifting, bending to tie up shoelaces or dealing with things above my head.

Do be aware of placing the chest under undue strain and see someone if it persists well into the second year

It took my chest area a couple of years to settle down. The bone had fused by 13 weeks, but the muscles had been compromised by the clamps used to keep my chest open. I still get an occasional twinge, but it has got better over time. Massage certainly helps.
