ECG: Possible interior myocardial infarction, or Indeterminate.

Good afternoon all,

I am posting this because I had a stress echo done about 3 1/2 weeks ago and everything went fine; as according to my cardiologist. However; upon reviewing my test result on my patient portal the ECG stated amongst other things " Possible interior myocardial infarction, or indeterminate." Naturally I was struck with fear after reading such a frighting statement; as such, I reviewed further and saw that my max ST segment was 3.3 m. I messaged my doctor and she told me that the ECG was of no concern because the rest of the test came back normal. I do not know if this is medical negligence, but I don't understand the lack of urgency. This ECG was the baseline ECG so it was before cardiac stress. Is possible for ECG'S to detect things that are not there? Or did I, in fact, have an infarction?

I've had inferior myocardial infarction (old) on my ECGs and queried my cardiologist. He said I hadn't had a heart attack and that they prefer to read the results themselves rather than believe a machine printout.

I think you should listen to cardiologist,they totally understand the heart, the echo shows somethings that if immediate attention was needed you'd get it,my echo showed loads from dilated aorta and quite a few others that cannot spell but after seeing cardiologist all of them are maybe age related,all our organs get older or not important

test results can seem scary to those who don't have the relevant training and experience - professionals read them in the context of a wider picture which includes other results (e.g. blood tests, symptoms)

in your report there is a very important word: "possibly" - maybe you could ask your cardiologist to explain her interpretation when you see her - this is an important part of a doctor's responsibilities

Unfortunately, though she said it wasnt of concern; she punted me off to a new cardiologist. I tried to make an appointment with her and her staff told me to cancel it.

I guess my concern got on her nerves.

ECGs have read outs of their own with the current technology, and I had one that also said possible infarction with my last one. Once Dr. read it he said all was fine.

Im glad to hear that. Hopefully it was a misread read. I have an incomplete RBBB and I've heard that thise can cause flase readings of various cardiac abnormalities.
