Heart Attack Sat

hi,

I had a heart attack Sat and stent fitted- still in shock, totally unexpected.

Can anyone tell me if they kept experiencing ‘angina attacks’ after where they’d initially feel a heat sensation all over the body, then pain in the chest and feeling like they are going to faint? I’m trying to put the heart attack behind me and move on but it’s like Groundhog Day with these daily attacks always first thing in the morning

Thanks, Karen

Hello :-)

I am so sorry to hear you had a heart attack was it this Saturday just gone and if so you are at home now ?

If you are at home they have let you come home early which take that as a good sign

If it was this Saturday it is very early days and you could get all kinds of sensations you need to take it easy

If you have any concerns though not sure if you have contact numbers for the Rehab Nurses at the Hospital you were in but if so use them as well as I hope you get offered Rehab when the time is right which I would go to if I could as that will be a huge help

If in any doubt phone 111 or your Doctors but hopefully take your time allow yourself time to recover and things will settle down :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Have you been instructed on how to use your GTN spray to see if that reliefs the pain? Please bear in mind that the spray could lower your blood pressure so make sure you're sitting down first.

However, I think I would be speaking to NHS111 or your GP just to get those symptoms checked out, especially as you're feeling faint. As it's first thing in the morning it might just be a simple case of low blood pressure, in which case you may need a change of meds or dosage. Do you monitor your own blood pressure?

It's totally understandable that you want to put your heart attack behind you but it is early days yet and it can take time to adjust to meds etc. but you should never ignore any chest pain, always seek help & advice.

Good luck

Might be the beta blockers or the blood pressure meds making you feel like this. Also the mind can seriously play havoc; making you feel like this. 99% of recovering from a heart attack is the mental aspect.

My advice, eat well and try and get up and about asap and a return to normal life will be here before you know it. No doubt at the minute you are conscious of everything. It’s natural.

I’m in my 5th year since my MI. I think about it daily. I don’t think I will ever not do. All we can do is make the changes and take the meds.

Definitely participate in cardiac rehab.

Good luck. 👍

Thank you, all l good advice but you've replied the wrong person, it's Tigger999 who was asking for advice. I've copied her into this reply so hopefully she'll get to see it.

thank you so much for the replies, it helps to know there are others out there (not that I’d wish it on anyone) . It’s probably the biggest thing that’s happened to me bringing the most varied of emotions!!

Speaking to a cardiac nurse yesterday think she may have found the answer that I’m waking up with these attacks between 6am-8am due to having sub clinical hypothyroidism and my TSH levels being at their highest impacting upon my heart 😮‍💨.

You are very right it has a huge impact on your mental state.

Regarding meds. Take what they say. Dont be scared of the statin negativity you read online if they put you on these.

My advice from personal experience. If they put you on a beta blocker like Bisoprolol , blood thinner like Ticagrelor or an ace inhibitor like ramipril and they say you CAN stop these after a year then do so. Always consult your cardiologist!

If you prolong use of these medicines it’s extreme hard to ween yourself off of them. They can come with side effects after stopping which are not nice to overcome.

Always carry your GTN and take the Aspirin. I found dissolvable aspirin causes acid reflux. Many find this.

This is now the start of your new life. You survived and you need to live life to the full and not let this hold you back. You will now probably live a healthier lifestyle than you ever did before.

Did you change to a solid Aspirin as I’ve been getting reflux regularly?

Interesting regarding time in hospital . Is that normal where you are ? think most of us that have had bypasses for instance ( I had 4xCABG) are generally discharged to home about 5 days after surgery. I thought stenting was even shorter stay ?

I’ve got my days mixed up , I was discharged a week last Mon , with being admitted on the Sat.

14 days after a bypass. I also had complications.

A perforation.

Fluid around the heart requiring a drain

I was out cold for 10 day with very few lucid moments

Intubation the works.

Nhs says 6-8 days minimum.

And you are still pain? Although at this stage its litely to be surgery pain where they cut your ribcage open.

You should have a follow up soon.

Talk to your gp

Had 4x CABG on a Tuesday and home on the Sunday , was advised that was the norm at StThomas’ if you passed the getting out of bed , stair and go to the bathroom test. Sorry you had complications post procedure .

Hi good morning Karen , I had my HA on good Friday, 3 stents fitted and like you felt dizzy and faint for a couple of weeks also pretty week, but a couple of months on and rehab course I'm feeling loads better now and hopefully back to work at the beginning August, keep in touch and let me know how you are going, exercise and trying to be healthier is the key.

Sounds like your BP is going too low! Are you monitoring your BP regularly, are you on BP lowering meds?

Karenedawson profile image
Karenedawson in reply toJedi14

Yes… my BP is about 108/65

My lowest BP has been 110/60. Any lower and I risk nause and collapse! My average normal BP is 120/65, with maxim at 140/65

You can't just ignore what happened and do what you did before. You need time to let your heart recover. NO housework, just gentle pottering about and short gentle walks. YOu also need time to let the side effects from the meds wear off. It sounds as if you are doing too much. In about 3 weeks you shoudl hear from cardiac rehab. They will give advice on diet, lifestyle changes and exercise. You must go to it . Structured exercise under the supervision of qualified nurses is the best thing you can do. It's a tremendous shock. Mine happened almost 6 years ago now. Look on it as a lucky warning and a new start on a better life. Meds alone won't prevent another one but your lifestyle can help massively. Do you need to lose weight, smoking? lack of exercise, change your diet to cut out pies fries and takeaways?. Let rehab help you but give it time. Don't do every thing at once. Your heart is a muscle. It's been damaged and needs time to heal.

Not what you're looking for?
