I've been under the joint care of Cardiology and Lipid clinics since my Stemi 13 months ago....doesn't time fly! After being v loosely discharged & sort of taken back by Cardiology, I have been discharged back to GP care by Lipids...yaay, so no hope for me now! (only joking)
Must say I'm chuffed with my results from the latest round of blood letting...
Just shows what an 80 mg of statin + big big change of lifestyle + good regular exercise can achieve.
This has taken some effort & amazing support from my wife and son, they've matched me on the dietary changes & kept me on the straight and narrow. YES I do still eat the odd Chinese takeaway (albeit a lower fat option) & YES I'm still tempted every day & YES I yearn sometimes for the 'naughty' foods (sausage rolls, crisps, chips etc), but now I'm steady at a good healthy weight, back to F/T working & go to Parkrun on Sat mornings (when the weather is kind)- 5K on the treadmill when it isn't.
I guess what I'm trying to say is.... stick with it, the results will come, it's a journey & any improvement is a win. I'm still borderline HF, but it's a number & doing the best we can at any given time is what we can do & that's the key....what we can do, not what was yesterday!
Good health to all 😜

In my view the basis of lipid reduction and management for those of us with high cholesterol and known heart disease is medication, but lifestyle measures such as those you have adopted are well worth maintaining. Unfortunately for many it becomes difficult to sustain these as time progresses as 'life' gets in the way and the focus becomes lost, and with that the benefits are lost as well. So keep it up!
Certainly focussing on what we can do helps and one size doesn't fit all.
All I can re-iterate is what the Registrar told me as I was discharged home after my HA... 'Lifestyle changes and medication together' are key & it's up to me now... changing very long established habits are really challenging and require effort every day...& it's not easy.
Ta muchly, I must admit I have had up to 4 takeaways in a month, but I've made sure, those who might be tempted to tempt me, understand that once I've consumed it, if my system cannot use/remove it then it sticks & only adds to what is already there & cannot be got rid of.
Must say I've sort of plateaued with my pb times at Parkrun, but my fitness at rehab (which has only ever been a fitness class - not held at a hospital) has really improved. I'm hoping once I can return to Parkrun more consistently then it will move on again 🤞
But you've been concentrating on your sprinting and jumping, which require a different approach.
I still can't run very far and there's still quite a bit of speed walking between running bursts over the 5K. Six months ago I was still measured at 38% LVF moderately impaired, but looking at the table you posted earlier, it still doesn't sit too well on any of the scales! 😱
I'm convinced though this has improved, just don't have the numbers to show. I feel far better overall & the changes for me are working far better than I could have hoped or wished for.
