I've recently had a 3 week stay at the Royal Brompton on the 22/05 i underwent a double bypass which went very well, i ended up with a blood transfusion, i was home within 5 days and all has gone very well, One of the biggest pain issues i've encountered that has affected my sleep is the severe pain in my shoulder blades. Now i understand having had my chest cracked open that whole area is going to be very sore but wondered if anyone else has experienced this specifically at all?
Anyway had stitches removed yesterday wound is all good
Hope this finds you all good

I am really pleased to hear that your double cabg went so well and you sound like you are well on your road to recovery.
I had double cabg in October 2023, with blood transfusion too. I am really fortunate in that my recovery has been relatively problem free, although I have experienced pain in my back and also my shoulder blades.
I have spoken with my GP about this and have been referred for CT and dexa scan and I am awaiting results.
Of course having had our ribcage cracked open we would expect some pain. Mine does not affect my sleep but it does affect how far I can walk and that amount of exercise I can do. After about 5km walking, I have to stop as my back becomes too painful to carry on.
I am interested to know the results to my scans and I really hoping that I will be given some advice/support on how to minimise the pain I experience. If I am told anything which may be of interest to anyone else, I will certainly post this on here.
Perhaps a discussion with your own GP may be helpful. I do hope your pain eases soon as having a good nights sleep certainly aids our recovery.
Thankyou for your response, I'm happy to hear your recovery has gone well and sorry to hear that you have been experiencing similar pain. I would be very interested to hear what the outcome is if you feel appropriate.
Along with my heart disease i do suffer with rheumatoid arthritis and was due steroid injections in both shoulders the day after i was admitted for CABG so unfortunately this didn't go ahead, So i do believe that problem has been exacerbated by surgery along with what was to be expected from CABG,
However, interesting you say on walking this has caused you a problem as is the same for me the longer i am on my feet the more the pain increases.
