Polysomnography Test and Multiple Sleep Latency Test

hello

I posted this over in Sleep Matters forum 9 days ago but it’s a bit quiet over there (I’m sure there’s a pun or some irony in that statement) and got no response. So I’m hoping someone here can advise per their experience. Apologies upfront if deemed not heart related and needs removing.

These tests were requested by respiratory consultant irrespective of heart issue. Originally cleared of significant sleep apnea last year but they wanted to see me again anyway - got appointment a year later nearly to the week. I can fall alseep pretty quick but staying asleep is a problem and can sometimes wake up coughing / spluttering. Often wake up with pain in bladder area (rather than just urge) needing a wee. Heart thumps like mad when wake up in night as can be quite abrupt awakening or that how it feels to me. Never wake up in morning refreshed. Daytime tiredness and fatigue (which I’m thinking is due to persistent untreatable angina but mainly stable) can be severe and again if do sleep I wake up feeling wretched so I try to fight it if I can. Getting me “down” mentally.

So I am booked in for overnight PSG and MSLT daytime tests at the end of May.

Would be great to hear people’s experiences, any tips and how easy or difficult did you find it to fall asleep in the clinic especially at night.

Are you in a room by yourself or a ward with other people?

Is there staff around all the time?

thanks in advance, nb these night time sleep issues pre existed heart issue symptoms kicking in and taking heart meds, daytime stuff was when heart stuff kicked in.

👍

When my husband was at the sleep clinic for tests he had a room on his own; had wires fastened everywhere but then was left totally alone. NO trouble getting to sleep. Monitoring was all done remotely. I would just make sure you know what you can safely unplug if you do wake needing the loo.

Thanks that’s helpful, I am a tad worried if I need the loo as I find once I’m vertical …. 🥴 will make sure ask what’s unpluggable! Cheers👍
