mine was congenital also and I had a valve replacement some years ago. I believe it means we no longer have congenital heart disease and we are now cured.
Hello and welcome to the forum. Personally, I do not think anybody bar your GP/cardiologist can say. Whilst the original issue has been resolved tests may have showed other issues such as reduced EF (ejection fraction). , slight ;leakage with another valve, narrowed artery(ies), etc. You really need to talk to the professionals particularly if it relates to an insurance proposal. Hopefully you are cured and free from any heart issue.
I also had a congenital defect (tetralogy of fallot), which was corrected over 45 years ago. Long story short: I am still considered an Adult with Congenital Heart Defect (ACHD) and I have a consultant who specialises in that. Of course a ToF is different from a congenital aortic valve replacement, but I would not automatically presume that you are ‘cured’. In my case, I got other complications after 45 years so I am very happy I have this consulting ACHD team!
I think that is a hard question to answer. I had same surgery last April plus replacement of large piece of aorta. I was born with a bicuspid valve and severe aortic stenosis. We both now have aortic valves that work alot better. My doctor told me to just go live my life after my 6month post op check up. Saying that, I must test my INR very regularly as it is all over the place and I will take Warfarin forever. I feel great and I'm too busy to think about my heart issues. My heart will never be perfect, some issues cannot be solved because the heart was compensating for several years. I will always be under the care of the grown up congenital heart team at my hospital.
I’ve had AVR, CABG and 2xPCI following a silent heart attack. As far as my GP is concerned I still have heart disease even though my surgeon told me to lead a normal life as has my local cardiac unit.
