Cardiomegaly

Hi everyoneI had a routine check at my doctor's last November,I just mentioned that I get palpations now and again.Next thing I am being referred to cardiology.I have had a heart monitor and a CT angiogram, the results came back and I have been to discuss with my doctor.I have been told I have slightly enlarged coronary chambers , he also said cardiomegaly which I'm unsure if this is the same thing.I am awaiting a heart scan.Has any one been diagnosed with this and should I be worried, supposed to be going on holiday next month and wondering if should cancel, had any one had to get medical travel insurance recently and if so who would you recommend.

I hope someone can reply to your medical question - it’s not one I personally have encountered, other than “cardiomegaly” means the heart is enlarged.

But, if you are being investigated by a medical team, you must report this to the travel insurer if you already have a policy.

If you are considering taking out a policy I don’t think an insurer could cover you until you know the exact diagnosis and what medication (if any) is being offered.

Thankyou, not sure what to do now as the yearly insurance I have now expires just a couple of weeks before we go on holiday

If you are under investigation your current policy will not be valid and any new one will likely carry a hefty premium as the results of the heart scan are obviously not yet known and they may refuse cover.

Worth trying online at justtravelcover.com but you must declare that you are waiting for a test. Cruises and travel to America will likely prove impossible at present

There have been several other posts about this topic which you can look up by typing insurance into the question bar. But the main thing is that I don’t think any of them will quote you while you’re still awaiting your scan. So I guess it depends on when you’re going to have the scan results. They, and you, need to know that it’s safe for you to travel.

are you certain on that? Insurance nirmally will cover pre excisting conditions but have never found one that will cover if awaiting scans and actively under investigation.

I agree with you, the link provided does actually say it's unlikely you'll get cover if awaiting tests, investigations etc.

You need to go to one of the specialists, as for any heart condition, scroll down to Step 2.

Tried to delete that but it won't let me for some reason. Turns out I missed a question on the application so I have to accept what others say, no quotes with undiagnosed conditions.

I already had travel insurance last year for two trips when I started having heart investigations. I phoned to advise them and they told me they were no longer prepared to cover me. To be fair a couple of months later I went on an OHS waiting list and do wouldn’t have been fit to travel anyway.

I read 'cardiomegaly' on one of my discharge reports. No-one has mentioned it before or since. Same with atelectasis. If I hadn't read the report, I wouldn't know about it. I also have an unmentioned PFO.

I used to work in PL insurance which included travel insurance & I was never able to arrange travel insurance for someone waiting test, results etc as insurers won't pick up the risks. You might get some sort of cover from a Lloyds broker (I wasn't able to) but it would be very expensive. I'm not sure what you mean by scroll down to step 2 though?

I've just looked at payintoomuch and it clearly states to be eligible for the policy you and all travellers must not be awaiting tests, test results or investigations, that's usually the same with all travel insurers. I would give the insurer a phonecall just to make sure you are covered, the 2 companies on the link are only comparison websites they're not insurance companies and the onus would be on yourself to check the policy terms & conditions.

Oops, my mistake, missed the bit about undiagnosed symptoms...

I had a look at the other site as well and whilst it doesn't particularly mention anything about tests etc it does mention 'quite a lot!' about making sure you give accurate info, ensure the policy is suitable for you etc as they'!! taken no responsibility for the policy not being suitable!! I hope you manage to get it sorted. Good luck

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the scan, that's it favourable & that you're able to go on your holiday🤞
