Hi sorry to see you have joined the club so early in life, see the HA as a warning shot to make lifestyle changes. The meds do take a few weeks or months for your body to get used to, especially if you were fit and well beforehand. Your heart itself has been through the wars and that is even more exhausting for the body. Take things slowly and as I’m sure others will say, it really does get better x
Hello
I am so sorry to read you have had a heart attack and so young and it is normal to feel scared no matter what age you are so that feeling is something so many of us feel but fades with time
The meds can take some getting used to but you will and with each one remember they are helping to keep your heart healthy so that is a good thing
You are young compared to some so now this has happened you are aware of it and can make healthy lifestyle choices and go on and live a good life to a ripe old age with so many do
You will be offered Rehab eventually which take it as this will be such a big help
Your confidence will be low but slowly you will get it back but this takes time
I hope you will find the Community helpful as so many of us do and anything you want to ask just ask us and we will do our best to try and answer you x
Hi there,
So sorry to hear about your Heart Attack at such an early age.
I'm 53 and considered myself fit, active, healthy eater, none smoker.
5 weeks ago I had a heart attack and a stent.
First 2 weeks I felt emotionally broken and couldn't get my head around how this could happen. The medicine regime was foreign to me as in my pre HA life ,I'd have the odd ibuprofen if I over did it on the weight training. The medicines also made me feel odd.
Week 3 This forum helped massively, Any strange sensations made me worried. In 53 years I had 2 major panic attacks . I spoke here and all I received was the most helpful support.
Week 4 Started to go for walks, 20 mins, then 30, then 40mins. Again felt fragile at first and
now I'm getting back into my stride.
This week , I went to cinema with my daughter ( 8 years old), did the supermarket shop by myself, celebrated Christmas, had a beer or three and felt like life is returning to normal.
You are at the early stages of your recovery, its both physical and mental and you have to take your time, you have to be very very kind to yourself and be patient.
Take each day as it comes, some days will better then others but eventually they will become only better.
Speak to your doctor and get an understanding of what happened and what were the drivers, this will help you manage things going forwards.
I hope this helps and I wish you a good strong recovery.
Hi HalfAHeart
Welcome to the forum, I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through such a huge event; it’s completely normal to feel scared when you’ve experienced something like this.
I’m 34 and although I haven’t had a heart attack, I have dilated cardiomyopathy and heart failure.
You are not alone in how you’re feeling. I hope that this helps. There’s a wealth of knowledge and support on here 🙂
Best wishes

I’m 71, had my HA back in May, 2xPCI, AVR and CABG followed in May and June. I’m back doing most of what I used to albeit on a cocktail of drugs that do leave me tired at night. And my mood can be up and down. As for physical fitness it has taken a lot longer for my chest muscles to heal than I was told, I still get the odd twinge even now.
In September I did my first 5k run since school and I’m doing them weekly whenever I can. I’ve taken 8 minutes off the time I first set.
Why am I posting this? To show that it is possible to recover and to get back to a relatively normal life, in fact my surgeon told me at 8 weeks to go away and enjoy a normal life. Not quite what I’ve done as I’ve cut back on alcohol and I’m now very diet conscious and I take more exercise than I did.
Hi mate, I had a heart attack at 37 nearly a year ago. I know it can be worrying but you will be weak and tired for a while. It might not be the meds - could just be you need to recover. Ensure you are resting but doing very moderate activity recommended by the doctor. It might not seem it at the moment but you’ll improve all the time.
How?
