I had a heart attack 18 months ago , had two stents fitted . I recently found out that one of my valves are leaking. How worried should I be?

valve leakage
Depending on what stage the leaky valve is at or if your having symptoms? Did the heart attack do this damage to your valve? So sorry about what you have been through, have you spoken to your doctor about your concerns?. I have had bicuspid aortic valve for 26 years my whole life and I am still going strong I will need valve replacement surgery but that's way in the future. My consultant is keeping a good eye on me incase anything changes in the meantime so I have check up every year and exercise test every 2 years x. Wish you all the best and hope you can find out what stage your leaky valve is 😉.
Thank you for your reply. This problem was only picked up on when I had an operation for a hiatus hernia last month. I am taking two furosemide 40mg a day and I have an appointment in January with a heart consultant. It is still really worrying me.
I had an echocardiogram in May, result 2 x PCI. Before discharge I had a second echo, that revealed a regurgitating aortic valve, EF was about 30% and I was retaining a lot of fluid around my heart and in my lungs. I was kept in and had AVR and a precautionary CABG three weeks later after they dried me out! EF is now 63% i.e. within normal range.
Do you know what your EF is? If it is above 30% then I understand it is possible to live with the issue provided there are no other problems.
thank you everyone for the information, I will try and speak to my doctor.
I had my aerotic valve replaced, my new one has what they call aa trivial leak, but good output, so they will not do anything about it, i suppose it depends on how bad the leak is
Many people have leaky heart valves without even being aware. you are fortunate in some respects that yours will now be monitored. It's possible to live a long life with the leaky valve as it may not get any worse. If it does and you need surgery then you will get either a mechanical or organic valve dependent on your age. Try not to worry as the recovery rate and quality of life after surgery is quite good. IF you require it. All the best!
dont worry about a leaky valve . Called a murmur If I remember right. I have had that all my life. I am 79 and having it checked when they are checking my heart. If it’s not badgering you so You have pains . My brother had that replaced when I got to open to much . He chased a pigs valve instead of mechanical so he could travel . One sight he said was he got dissy And felt like he was going to black out.
