I have 2 stents in the right coronary artery and despite being on statins since 2011 am experiencing rising cholesterol. I have been referred to the lipid clinic. Various doses and types of statins have caused awful side effects so It has been suggested by the gp that we discuss the injections. Any advice from anyone who is on these injections would be truly appreciated. Best wishes to all.

Hello, I am on a trial for the injections. Having said that I am not sure whether or not I get the placebo! However, from the people I have spoken to who do have the injections they have not experienced any significant side effects. I am sure other people will be along to share their experiences. Take care, Judi

A lot of people have side effects from statins - some estimate up to 40%of those taking them.

When Inclisiran (the injection) was introduced two years ago, NICE said at the time that they had no information as to whether it reduced cardiac events. I’ve not seen any evidence since that says they do any good. Lowering cholesterol is neither here nor there. It’s whether it makes a difference to how long you live.

With statins you live an average of four days longer (unless one of the side effects like diabetes gets you first). I don’t think we have any data on inclisiran.

If your HDL is higher than your triglycerides, and your Hba1c is not in the diabetic range, it doesn’t really matter what the total is. You will probably have large buoyant LDL, which is good for you, and not small dense LDL, which is what does the damage.

I know someone - wife of a GP- with a total cholesterol of 19. Neither of them are worried, because it’s the type, not the total, that matters.
