Hello, I'm 27 year and was born with a bicuspid aortic valve and stenosis followed up with BCH until.16 I recently had a consultation with a new cardiologist who said my stenosis is gone??? However listening to my heart could still hear it??? Also said we don't know if it's a tricuspid or bicuspid valve... no help to me is it that.So confused do I need a second opinion?
Stenosis gone?!: Hello, I'm 27 year and... - British Heart Fou...
Stenosis gone?!
Dear Endowwrrior.
I do feel for you with all those medical problems.
I lived for seventy years not knowing I was bicuspid. And I was pretty active. Cycled around UK, ran a mile or three before breakfast and played about three million tennis matches. So I wouldn’t want to consider being bicuspid unless there were pretty major symptoms. Likewise, a little bit of stenosis won’t do harm. Mild stenosis would just mean an annual check. Moderate stenosis just puts you on an amber warning. Then severe stenosis you can get to panic. In my case I got a replacement valve and all is now great.
Be warned that second opinions might require a lot of money for a private consultant. And the private consultant may well require the routine scans. That’s more than a few hundred pounds. Because of Covid, ie all hospitals closed, I really did need private care and that was £43,000. Worst bit was not knowing if it would be £20,000 or £120,000.
I am alive and kicking three years later, so the expense was worth it. It just meant I kept my old car rather than getting a new shiny motor. I rather like my old car. And I like even more my new aortic valve.
Hope this puts things in to perspective.
Bestvwishes

Hi, Sorry to hear about your situation. Given your history, I'd have thought you've had multiple Echos' by now that have confirmed the diagnosis. It seems a bit odd what the new Consultant is saying, so I would suggest seeking a further opinion.
Thankyou I'll look I to finding a second opinion
I have some problem I have bicuspid aortic valve and severe aortic regurgitation and moderate stenosis, that's strange that they would say it's gone?? Did they mean improved?? If not then I would definitely seek a second opinion x
This sounds very strange to me. I have a bicsupid aortic valve ,found on an echocardiagram. I have an echo every year to keep an eye on it,as stenosis can get worse and valve replacement is considered. It certainly won't go in the other direction with age!
I think a second opinion is vital here
I've never really been told much about my heart condition and basically to just get on with it but not to do strenuous exercise. Yeah them saying it's gone is unusual considering they can hear it via stethoscope
