Advice please. Poss stenosis

Hi I was admitted to hospital overnight a couple of weeks back and overheard stenosis mentioned. I'm on watch and wait for OHS for bicuspid heart valve and 5.2cm ascending aortic aneurysm in Liverpool Heart and Chest hospital. Will this bring my op forward? Now on beta blockers as well. Thank you

Hi Benj_Mum. I had stenosis for many years, gradually going from mild to severe. Also a bicuspid valve and ascending aneurysm. In my case I was down to six-monthly checks and, surprisingly, it was the stenosis rather than the aneurysm that finally prompted them to act and go for surgery. But it wasn't like I was an emergency so I don't think it necessarily speeded anything up? From cardiologist appt to appt with surgeon (and all pre-op tests) was a couple of months, then a trying three/four month wait until surgery. But it is all done case by case so they'll triage cases very much on an as-need, urgency, severity basis. So my experience is no indicator of what yours might be! But I guess just keep asking them questions! Either way, best of luck with your countdown. Fingers and everything crossed for you. Nic x

I had coronary bypass surgery 4 years ago. It failed and then I had 4 stents implanted.

I changed my diet and lifestyle (exercise daily) and now live without any drugs and am in the best shape of my life.

If you haven't already done so, you should modify your diet and lifestyle to address your CAD. The Mediterranean Diet is considered the best diet for health. You should also walk daily for at least 30 minutes and ideally up to 60 minutes, if you are able to.

If you have not had bypass surgery then the best way to avoid it is to make these dietary and lifestyle changes immediately.

Avoid all sugars, simple carbohydrates and processed foods.

Increase your intake of legumes, vegetables, fruits, avocado, nuts and seeds, and have cold-water fish such as salmon, 2-3 days per week.

Thanks MichaelJ. My CAD is congenital as I have a bicuspid heart valve. Had an angiogram last year and showed no narrowing. Am doing anyway

Hi much the same as yourself. Have a bicuspid Aortic Valve and a 4.8 cm ascending Aorta. On bi yearly CT and Echocardiogram at the LHCH. luckily I don't have any symptoms at all. I also am in permenent AF but still no symptoms. I do feel though that surgery is somewhat inevitable probably within the next 2 years. I am happy with my care at the LHCH. Good luck. Roy

Hi Roy, my first appointment with LHCH wasn't very good. She didn't believe my Mum was alive 19 years after double heart bypass. I know the dates really well as was 34 weeks pregnant. Also it was 4 days after my darling Father died. Thankfully my last appointment was with a different doctor and he was lovely. Back in September for echo, CT scan and appointment Jo

Stenosis means narrowing. Although they were probably referring to your valve I would give your GP a call just to check they were not referring to a coronary artery(ies). Quite a few forum members have needed a bypass with valve surgery.
