hi, I would like some information or if anyone is going through the same thing..
My father some years ago got diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy hypertrophic.
recently he has been experiencing shortness of breath even when doing nothing, he had a dry hacking cough, he also recently had swelling of the legs and hands.
He is going to see the GP about this but I’m so worried because of all the scary things you read online, any advice or if someone is experiencing the same and could tell me what this could be?

Good morning. ....I am not medically trained but would definitely advise against using Dr Google..... you could be filling your head with all sorts that could add to your concerns. The symptoms you describe could relate to some heart conditions but could also relate to something like a chest infection so it really is best to wait until the GP is seen for further advice. Perhaps you could arrange to go along to the appointment with your Dad if he is in agreement, so that you are clear about what is said and the way forward. I hope you get some answers soon. Let us know how he gets on. All the best x
I have dilated cardiomyopathy and had these symptoms, minus the cough. My swelling was around my abdomen and legs, shortness of breath constantly, particularly when lying down and found out that this was due to excess fluid in my body which is common with heart failure. I was given Furosemide water tablets which worked a treat for me, as my symptoms disappeared overnight. Your father's GP will be the best person to speak to in his case. All the best.
Hi I am currently in kings college hospital London with the very same symptoms as your dad I even get breathless turning in my bed and now on back to back nebuliser to clear mucus from my lungs that's causing the hacking cough I think perhaps your dad needs to be see at A and E he may need blood gasses checking out to my advice is to go and have dad checked out good luck keep me updated please
