hi everyone here l am again for words of advice. My partner was diagnosed year ago with heart failure and LBBB he has been doing well on his meds and yesterday was in hospital for a pacemaker implant. When he phoned me after it the last thing l expected him to say was it had been unsuccessful. Apparently they could not get the third lead in. I’m am absolutely devatatated for him as we thought this was going to be really helpful for his heart failure. The consultants are having another meeting and will be in touch. Can anyone tell me if this is a common thing and will they try again. Thanks

ouch. So sorry to hear this, but hopefully only a temporary setback. I have exactly same, am waiting for consults appointment with a view to a pacemaker and I have to say I hadn't heard of such a complication. My brother-in-law (66) recently had a dizzy spell, taken to A&E, diag with same, kept in for 7 days for tests etc - and boing, a pacemaker - in and out in half an hour. Now home recovering and feeling 100%. Chin up, hopefully all will be sorted.

Hello Chichi,

I fear that this is more common than we think. My father needed a CRT-D and that failed for the same reason. They could only fit 1 ventricular lead and 1 atrial (normal pacemaker/defibrillator).

In my case instead they could add the implant but only on the right side, not the left when they normally do for right handed people. Sadly we are indeed not all the same anatomically 😌

Maybe this will cheer him up a bit: my father started to feel better just with the pacemaker and implementation of good heart failure meds like Entresto. On the other side, me having a CRT-D implanted didn’t make much difference as I have a very complicated cardiac history anyway, once again, HF meds are really helping instead.

Obviously what happened to your partner is not ideal but he needs to keep his hopes up and maybe discuss different drugs therapy.

I wish all the best!

This happened to me, wouldn’t go through the sinus. They did the Two lead one instead, and although this doesn’t apparently give the same protection I’m still here it’s been nearly a year. I also have LBBB.

Hello ChiChi123. The same thing happened to me. They struggled to get the 3rd lead in and ended up accidentally puncturing my lung. Fortunately they tried again a few months later and managed it so maybe they can try again for your hubby? 🤞 X
