Blood Pressure

It has been a week since I got my blood pressure monitoring machine. I've been keeping track of the results. I'm on 5mg of Bisoprolol for tachycardia but it also lowers my blood pressure which is an undesirable effect. My BP before Bisoprolol was close to 120/80.

Anyway I've been taking one reading every day around 1pm for the last 7 days and my systolic has been between 98 - 108 and diastolic between 61 - 69.

I do eat a lot of bananas which I'm led to believe lowers BP but I'm fairly happy with the results. I don't have any symptoms of low blood pressure and my results are in the healthy range albeit at the lower end.

If you feel well with your systolic at that rate I wouldn't worry. Drinking water would probably bring it up at bit for you. I was told this when my BP was low and I was in hospital with AF.

My diastolic rate was normally 62, but since going into constant AF it's a bit higher now.

Yeah I feel fine and am not worried, it’s better than having high blood pressure.

l have low blood pressure and cannot take Bisoprolol regularly, only as a pip. My diastolic reading can go in the 50’s at times. I think your readings are ok. The main thing is if you feel ok. I wasn’t aware that bananas lower blood pressure and l have one most days. Thanks for the info.

I’ve been eating up to five a day over the last month or so, I’ve not eaten any today and will see if that has any effect when I take my BP tomorrow.

l would be very interested to know the result if you could kindly let me know. I have heard that bananas can make you constipated, but l am ok with that. I eat them because they are good for the heart and contain potassium, they also relax you which we all need to do! Thanks again.

I measured my BP earlier this morning before my Bisoprolol kicked in, it was 111/71. Checked it just now and was 104/67. So still within the range I had in the past week taken at roughly the same times. Hard to know if not having any bananas affected the reading.

Ok thanks for letting me know. Your numbers are all good again today so that’s reassuring for you. Take care.

Hi - I’m on the same drugs as you + Entresto etc and have around the same BP readings. Told by my GP Pharmacist those levels are OK as long as you feel OK and don’t start feeling dizzy, tired or out of breath etc. However, they wanted me to get back to them if systolic goes lower than 95 for a day or two - or get any of above symptoms. Good luck.

my husband has been really off colour using Bisoprolol. He was ordered off sotalol by an advanced practitioner when he presented in another a fib episode in a and e She said that Bisoprolol was a better option even though Bisoprolol is a rate control drug and not very effective at controlling and stabilising an irregular heart rhythm. His heart rate went incredibly low at rest to about 35 - 40 bpm. As you can imagine he couldn’t function anywhere near normally. His A/fib returned with vengeance within a few weeks and wouldn’t revert back into NSR. Presented back in a and e where my husband was finally attended to by a proper cardiologist who ordered him straight back onto sotatol saying that Bisoprolol wouldn’t stop an a/fib attack it is meant to lower the heart rate. My husband’s heart rate is normally low so lowering it even further wasn’t a good idea. I hope you get some proper information regarding Bisoprolol. It is good for some people but it does have a lot of side effects so you should be counselled before taking it. Good luck

I'm sorry TC but I can't help as I'm not a medic. Watch your dose though. Chat with your Doctor to your about that.

I'm not worried even my lowest reading 98/61 is still healthy according to the NHS.

Hi. I have been on Bisoprolol for a few years now and initially it really knocked me down. GP split the dose to 2.5 mgm twice a day, which improved my energy levels. Rob
