Hi Bishop1

I’m sorry I can’t help with your query. My mum has similar episodes where she explains there is a burning sensation in her upper thighs from time to time. Will be interested in seeing others’ responses to this. She is also diabetic and takes Metformin 500mg for this.

All the best.

Tos

Hi Tos92.. Thanks, it comes and goes. Taking Metformin 500 ( 3 times a day). Previously on 850 by 3 times a day.

Hope you well x x

Hi! Having been diabetic since the Stones and Beatles (preferred the Stones) were constantly in the charts my immediate thought is PAD (Perifsrsl Arterial Disease) . Although the most common symtom is cramp when walking I didn't experience them till about 2010. Prior to that I had had the odd burning sensation and itching for no apparent reason. Ask your GP for a Doppler with ABPI (Ankle Brachial Pressure Index). The ABPI is the ratio of the BP at the ankle over the BP on the upper arm. Below 0.9 you may have PAD and 0.7 or below needs investigating. Any competent (not all are) podiatrist can also carry this out. Private ones charge about £150. Drug wise the treatment is usually a od thinner (usually Aspirin or Clopidogrel) and a Station). Good luck.

Sorry I have just remembered that CKD can affect the legs causing weakness and strange sensations (including restless legs) because of the build up of metabolic waste. However, as a diabetic you are at high risk of PAD so the Doppler check is definitely worth doing.

Hi Bishop1, I have been type 1 for 40 years, and get a lot of nerve pain, which can feel like burning. It can be impacted on by certain foods, and if I have any sweet foods this can also impact. Just in case you have changed diet at all.

I have not heard of the tests that MichaelJH mentioned, these sound like a very good idea for me too!

Take good care and I hope the pain eases, it is very uncomfortable. Judi

Good morning Bishop 1. As already mentioned. Your declining kidney function can cause various problems with gout like pains and hot legs as well as other side effects. But we all get affected differently because we sometimes have other health problems as well to deal with. There's a very helpful Facebook group. Chronic kidney disease uk. Where you will get plenty of help. Brian
