AF, Bigeminy or something current

Last week, I fell over in the garden. I tripped on a brick and fell. I did not feel faint or get dizzy. And I definitely didn't "have a fall", as so many in the urgent care centre phrased it. I suffered some cuts and bruises, and did some nasty damage to my ear which required medical attention. Hence, I went to the local urgent care centre.

Whilst doing observations, we saw my pulse was reading at 40bpm. Whilst I've been diagnosed with High BP, which is managed with propanolol, amlodopine and ramipril, low pulse rate has never been seen with me before.

After many hours and multiple ECGs, and a transfer to another town's Emergency Department, the ECGs showed every other heart beat being weaker than the rest, but with a perfect rhythm. They determined by heart rate was 80, but the device only saw half of the beats.

The ED Doctor had consulted the on call Cardiologist and between them, diagnosed me with having Bigeminy. He said one more test would be done on my blood overnight, and I may receive a call the next day; and if not, don't worry. I've not had a call.

I researched Bigeminy and the only descriptions I can find are it being a double heart beat in quick succession. I can't find anything describing every other heart beat being weaker.

I'm reaching out to this community, wondering if anyone else has any experience similar to mine (not the falling over bit)?

Hi Munchonko

I’m sorry to hear about your your accidental fall last week, I hope your ear is on the mend.

I have no advice to offer as far as the bigeminy goes however, there is a cardiac helpline that might help. I have supplied the number below.

0808 802 1234

I have come across a few other members with bigeminy so I hope they will be along to share their experiences with it.

All the best.

Tos

Hello :-)

That fall sounds nasty but could have been a reason you had it as you had to attend Hospital and they picked up on this which sounds if needed they can treat

I am wondering if it is a new thing now Hospitals are doing with this if you don't hear back from us it means do not worry as I had to go to A&E and had blood tests and they said the same to me and like you I have heard nothing back but in my case it has not stopped me worrying

When you attend A&E everything gets reported to your Doctors so I wonder if making an appointment to see what they advise if anything more needs to be done might help

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Hi there. I take propranolol 80mg daily, 40mg in the morning and 8 hours later I take another 40mg. I also have a low heat rate, it's around 45 BPM to 51 BPM while sitting down, when iam sleeping it's around 42 BPM, I have a doctor's appointment this Friday to discuss my low heart rate to see if this is ok for me.

I had HA 2022 and stent fitted. Everything has been fine until November 23 I had a really funny turn, light headed, jelly legs went to gp who immediately sent me to A&E as my pulse was 36. After 8 hours in hospital was discharged. Later at cardiac clinic was told it is Bigeminy. This has been described to me as extra heartbeats/ectopics they should be the same but mine quite often come out different. Awaiting follow up with cardio consultant and a 72 hour monitor they also stopped my bisopropol to see if that would help. Can’t say I have noticed any difference. Just waiting for hospital now.
