can somebody tell me the difference between AAA and Stenosis Aorta Valve which I have and is moderate at the moment. I see alot of posts regarding Ascending Aorta annurysm with various sizes. Is this the same at Stenosis Aorta valve.

Netie,

No.

Stenosis means narrowing. This can happen at the aortic valve itself (set just on top of the heart) or less often in the aorta itself.

AAA is Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. An aneurysm is a widening of any blood vessel and the abdominal aorta is down in the tummy area.

Hope that helps. Have you had a diagnosis of aortic stenosis?

Hi. Thanks for your swift reply. Yes I have been monitored for several years since they found it during a very routine op for an abscess removal. The anaesthetist found that I had a heart murmur and I have had yearly checks ever since then . It’s gone from mild to moderate as it is now .

When people have been talking about AAA sizes I was wondering why I didn’t know my size. But I understand now thank you .

Regards Annette

Morning, AAA is in the abdomen. What you have is in the chest.

AAA (Abdominal) is different from an Ascending Aortic Aneurysm. The latter is an aneurysm in the aorta as it ascends above the aortic valve. It can be associated with aortic valve stenosis - I think because the poor function of the valve can have an effect on the aorta. If they do find an ascending aortic aneurysm over a certain size, they can (I gather) mend it at the same time that the aortic valve is replaced. I have my aorta checked (measured) when I have my annual (post AVR) check - which I understand is part of the usual check up procedure. So far, it isn't large enough to be of concern. Hoping it continues that way! When you have your next check up on the valve you could ask about your aorta but I shouldn't be concerned about it unless they mention it as a problem and even then they can monitor it and mend it.
