I have congenital heart disease and have had open heart surgery twice. I now have a bi-ventricular pacemaker (I am 45 years old). My mum passed away from aortic dissection a short while ago and as a result I have been referred for genetic tests. It appears I now also have mild dilation of the thoracic aorta. Recently, I have been feeling increasing breathless and was referred for a chest X-ray by my GP and the results have come back saying I have an enlarged heart with a CRT of 18/28 (0.64). I have been told by my GP to contact my consultants secretary to see if I can be seen for further tests (only had appointment with this diagnosis this evening). As it’s Friday, I am unable to do anything until Monday. Should I be worried about this?
Does anyone have any words of advice ?
thank you

It sounds like they've caught this one early so they'll be able to do something about it... you've been advised to go for testing rather than immediate urgent surgery, so I'd take some small comfort from that maybe?
Appreciate it's a worry though, especially after everything else you've been through.
I'm really sorry I don't know anything about your condition of even what you mean by crt of 18/28 but I do know that, with the correct treatment & medication for whatever has caused your enlarged heart an enlarged heart can be cured and reduce back to normal size. Hopefully when that happens this will help with your breathlessness too. Good luck 🤞
Welcome to the forum Maple_cakesFirstly sorry for the loss of your mum 💔, glad you were refered for genetic testing though. Hope you can be seen for more tests, what caused the enlarged heart? I'm not familiar with your condition. I also have congenital heart disease, and I have bicuspid aortic valve I have been told that my leak and narrowing could cause an enlarged heart and I will eventually need surgery. I wish you all the best and hope you don't need surgery yet. Take care ❤️
hopefully you will get your questions answered by your Consultant, when you get to see them. But the BHF helpline is always good to call, with helpful and trained responders, if you want some good advice.
