I had a CT cardiac angiogram in February and have just had the letter with the results and there is one result which is strange as it said “there is also a hiatus hernia”. I thought a hiatus hernia was to do with the oesophagus. However in January I had an Endoscopy and nothing unusual was found. Does anyone know if it is possible to have a hiatus hernia in the heart? If, however the scan could show the oesophagus would the Endoscopy not have shown the hiatus hernia? The advice strangely was to continue with a statin!!
I hope my message makes sense!!

I think they will have reported seeing the hiatus hernia as an aside to the heart-related elements of the scan. Not sure why your endoscopy didn't identify it, but a discussion with your GP or other medical professional should clarify this and look at the way forward for you with diet/lifestyle changes/meds in relation to the hernia.
This is what the NHS Scotland website says about a hiatus hernia
Good news that the advice for your heart was to continue with statins - I'm waiting for the results of my scan and will be very pleased if I receive the same advice 😊
thank you for your response. It is strange about the endoscopy as this was only done 4 weeks before the scan. I have booked a phone appointment with my Doctor for tomorrow so hopefully will find out why this has happened as I do have the letter from the Endoscopy Department to say no problems found.
