Is anyone going to arrange an Easter booze up? I can offer a Simnel cake. With correct number of apostles.

Please can you enlighten me… what’s a simnel cake? I like the little chocolate nests my mum used to make with us as children at Easter 🐣

Best wishes

It's a light fruit cake with marzipan in the middle and on top, and eleven marzipan balls to represent the eleven apostles minus Judas. Quite delicious if you like marzipan.

I was brought up that Simnel cake was for Mothering Sunday. Originating as young girls going home to the family on that day bringing a cake, and, of course 11 apostles!

Yes, I remember Simnel cake on Mothering Sunday. I think the memories are related to my strong dislike of marzipan as a child. I don't recall anything about the 11 apostles. I remember Mum saying something about how although it wasn't allowed to eat eggs during Lent, there was an exception that each Sunday in Lent had it's cake where eggs could be used. I have no idea what the other cakes were.

Love a slice of Simnel cake { or maybe two } but no I have nothing planned for Easter { which is fine by me } x

I think RufusScamp is suggesting one of MichaelJH’s virtual gatherings. With lashings of gin 😀

Well that of course is entirely different, time to dig out the easter bonnet again, God has that really been a year? { decanting gin into hospital sample bottles, new of course, to disguise it } ooooooooh just realised who I had to hide it from ! lol. x

I can certainly smell sample bottles from a very long distance!🤣🤣 Can one ask if the 🍶 bottles have been used & if so will they be put through a rigorous sterilising procedure🔬 before being refilled with gin? Though tbf, even if the answer is no I'm not totally sure I'd turn down the offer, afterall, it is gin!! 🤨

I'll bring some Torrijas. Similar to French toast, They consist of bread, dipped in milk and egg, then fried, before being sprinkled in sugar and drenched in honey.

Wow Wow Wow how may calories can you fit in one dish? sounds great, you could always use semi skimmed milk ? lol
