Extreme fatigue 2 years after valve replacement

Three years ago I had atrial valve replacement and double bypass. Two years ago, following infective endocarditis, I had the replacement valve changed and a patch in my heart. And a pacemaker fitted.

I have been well since but in the last month I have started to get breathless (not too bad) and extreme fatigue. After 12hrs sleep I struggle out if bed and by lunchtime I am so exhausted.

I am worried my valve is failing again, any ideas?

Hello :-)

I am sorry to read you are not feeling to good at the moment and it is very hard to say what could be the cause of this but I would make a Doctors appointment and get it checked out because they will be the ones if they think you need tests etc that can get this arranged if needed

Let us know how you get on :-) x

hi Like you I’ve also had endocarditis & valve replacements and would say that if you don’t feel well then you should definitely go and see your doc. I’m not suggesting that it’s endocarditis again but I learnt the hard way that leaving it as long as I could before seeking medical help was a mistake. It could be something minor but at least if you see the doc you’ll have some reassurance.

I am sorr that you are going through this when you probably thought you had it all sorted out, but your best way forward now is to see your GP. New or increasing symptoms should be reported

of course there is a lot of pressure on the system now, but let the medics sort out what needs attention 🙂

hi, how are you getting on? Did you find out why you were so fatigued. Hope everything is ok with you.

Hello! I had an echocardiogram and a full check of my pacemaker. They couldn’t find anything wrong and have put it down to medication. I still have extreme fatigue and am in bed (asleep) by 7.30pm every night. It’s a struggle not to have an afternoon sleep but if I do give in then I stay in bed until the next morning.

hi. I’m so pleased that they fully checked you over but it’s awful feeling so tired all of the time. I’m 2 years on from my valve replacement and feel the same way. X
