Just a heads up for anyone fortunate to be using private care at [[Removed]] Hospital. I was overcharged £1600 on my self funding bill and the reason given was the finance office thought I was covered by insurance! All I can deduce is that insurers are getting a raw deal. It took me 3 months to get a refund.

I think you got a raw deal too if you waited 3 months for your refund! Complain. You might get an ex gratia payment for the distress it caused you. £1600 is a lot of money to most people.
Wow!Sounds like vet bills too!
you should ask for interest, 3 months is a very long time to wait. And I agree that £1600 for most of us is a lot of money. It’s not as if private practice’s are hard up. Bloomin cheek.
the world of private medical care charges is a web of difficulty. I needed a new aortic valve when hospitals were closed. So I went private. I have no complaint about the costs, just the way charges are made. They forgot to charge me for the anethtist so I got charged three months later. Before the op I could not identify what the cost would be. And I certainly felt far too ill to deal with negotiations.
I guess we reach in to the world of the rich who do not need to check the costs.
“If you need to ask the price then you can’t afford it” comes to mind.
Going back many years, my Dad went for private care. When collecting Dad from hospital I personally attended cheque book in hand and asked to be charged any outstanding costs but was assured nothing further to pay. Dad got a bill for extras a month later.
back here on earth, the staff who care for us are being treated abysmally. Cut the over paid managers and take in nurses and doctors. This is needed now, in spades.
