Inr dropping.

hi. I’m wondering if you have any ideas. For the last 6 weeks my Inr has continued to drop for no apparent reason. It’s now down to 2 (range is 2.5 to 3.5) and it’s been steadily dropping for weeks despite increases in my warfarin dose. There’s been no new meds and no change to my diet. I’ve not missed any doses. I do eat blueberries everyday and will stop them now just incase they are the culprit. I truly hate warfarin. I’d be grateful for any ideas.

Hello :-)

I have to start a med today I don't want to take not warfarin but still I have a feeling it will cause problems I do not like medication at all but know it is a must now

I can totally understand why you hate taking it but it is helping you as much as you do hate it keep that thought in mind

I lost ,my Mum to a blood clot that traveled to her lungs and heart and I often think and get angry if they had caught it warfarin no doubt would have saved her life and she could even now still be here

I have no experience in this but try cutting out the blueberries and see if that is the culprit but if not or if it drops anymore you need to contact the Doctors of course but fingers crossed it will settle down

Let us know how you get on :-) x

ahh thanks for replying. Hope you are feeling ok today. I’m fine really but I worry sick when my warfarin isn’t stabilised as I’ve already had a stroke. The level I’m at isn’t dangerous but it’s a nuisance that it won’t stabilise. My health anxiety really kicks in and I start to have thoughts that Ill end up really poorly again

I really do appreciate you answering as I know that you’ve got a lot on your own plate at the moment. I hope your new meds work out ok and that your diabetes gets sorted. Big hugs. X

Hello :-)

I am still not doing great but thank you for asking I start the meds today after tea :-o

I do understand your anxieties though I really do and it can be hard to control

But keep telling yourself everything is ok at the moment I am keeping a close eye on things as well as this time I know what to look out for so there is no reason I should get poorly like last time because I will speak up and get help before I get to that stage and that is if t is needed which my anxiety is playing on me with all these " what if's "

That is what I try and do talk myself back down it is not easy but when you look at the sensible side which again can be hard of what we are concerned over and reason with it then it starts to make sense :-)

Having said all this wait till I take this first med later !

My head will lose any ounce of sense it might have which is not a lot :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

hi both myself and a good friend had a major drop in INR last week. I asked the nurses but they have no idea. This week it is fine. My mate said his one is also fine.

hi. Hope you are doing well. Good news that your inr is stabilised. I’ve got no idea why mine keeps dropping but I’m boosting my warfarin dose again tonight so hopefully that’ll help.

mine went down to 1.5 for a week. Now around 2.3. My mates was down to 1.2. He is on 14mg. His one is fixed now as he says. I am on 5mg. Got a test on Thursday to see if its ok. I was suprised rhat it changed so quick even though my diet was the same!

Hope yours will be fine as well. Keep well

warfarin is such a pain but I guess that we are stuck with it. I’ve been told that if mine falls below 2 they’ll put me on tinzaparin. Pleased that yours is fixed now and that it stays within range. Hoping that none of your friends in Turkey are near where the earthquake hit. It puts the glitch in my warfarin levels into perspective. Let me know how you get on with your test on Thursday x

yes they gave me tonzaparin for 3 days. Now off it

Turkey is very sad actually. My family is in the north. But most UK Turks come from that region. Many upset people as they lost family members.

Will update you about my INr

yes it is a pain to be on warfarin long term and there probably won’t be any change in the near future either having a mech valve

If my drops before my normal range after another test my drs prescribe an injection but I can’t think what it’s called now for several days then I go back for another blood test till it returns to normal

I never know what I’ve done differently with my diet whether I’ve eaten too many greens or what I’ve done as there is never something really unusual but eventually it stabilises and now they say to eat small amount of greens every day but all very confusing I think

I hate that I bruise so easy too but I suppose that’s what we have to remember that it’s keeping us alive and stroke free we hope

Hope it returns to normal soon Good luck

Off topic. I am just wondering how the entresto is treating you and if its helped at all? Thanks

hi. Hope you are well. I’ve managed to tolerate the highest dose of entresto for around 6 months. I had a scan a few weeks ago and my EF appeared to have increased from 45% to 53% which is good. Just hoping that it continues to improve. How are you doing?

in reply toAnon2023

Thanks for the reply. Ah that's brilliant news! Glad its working then. Yes, i have only just settled on the middle dose entresto due to fatigue and brain fog and aniexity effects i get from it. Probably do need to push it to the higher dose to see if this helps. My ef seemed to peak at 44% and now back to around 40%..

I must admit that I’m a bit worried about hitting a plateau as I don’t know how long the initial improvements with entresto go on for. As I’m on the highest dose I don’t know where I would go to next if my EF started to drop again. At least you still can increase your dose if the side effects subside. I’ve heard from others too that the side effects can be really awful, I hope that you feel better soon. X

Hi there, I've been on warfarin for over 15 years now since getting an aortic valve replacement in 2007. My INR has always been fairly stable (my therapeutic range is between 3 and 4). More recently however my readings have been, well let's say 'erratic' to say the least! One week it's high, the next week it's low and so on, without any real consistent pattern. I've had many conversations with the inr clinic about this, and am constantly being asked if and what have I been doing differently - have I been drinking alcohol? Have I stopped drinking alcohol? Am I dieting? Have I put on weight? Have I missed a dose, or taken too much? etc etc. The conclusion? They don't really know. One of the clinicians told me recently that warfarin basically "doesn't like change" so - if there is something that has changed, e.g activity levels, alcohol intake, different diet etc these could all have an effect however small. Im on 9mg / 10mg at the moment and my INR at last weeks clinic was 2.1 so still low. I used to only have to take 7mg to reach my TR. I've been told I may need "other interventions" if this continues, what can u do? I believe I'm doing all the right things so can do no more. Anyway, sorry for rambling - I hope u can get your INR levels back to normal soon 😀 Best Wishes, Bb.

hi. Thanks for replying. Warfarin is very temperamental but I suppose it’s keeping us alive. It sounds as if you are having a nightmare trying to keep yours in range too. Mine has been back in range for 2 weeks now but I still have no idea why my levels plummeted. My iron levels are now through the roof so I’ve got no idea what is going on. Im going on holiday in on Tuesday so I'm expecting my levels to play up again, last time I went away they went up to 5.8. Although I like the reassurance that going to the inr clinic provides Im going to improve my knowledge of self dosing. It’s not that I do t trust the inr clinic, i do, I just want to understand their rationale for prescribing. I really hope that you manage to get yours sorted soon. Best wishes xx
