Was admitted to hospital with chest pain, collapsed and was in resus. In hospital for 1 week. Lots of tests, diagnosed with pericarditis, however my troponin level was 243. Can you have this high a level with pericarditis?

Thanks

hi you are asking non medical people to dismiss a diagnosis that a doctor has given you .I’m Sure you don’t want any of us to tell you that the doctor’s diagnosis is wrong and we are right

Hi Bea111 gosh scary stuff. I had a similar experience.. 2 weeks ago had what looked like a heart attack.. trop levels at 68... spent a week in hospital no evidence of anything wrong discharged awaiting cmri.. back in after pain at home Troponin level up to 348... cmri showed nothing, drs treating me for myocarditis and pericarditis.. so I guess that suggests Trop levels can be high with that diagnosis. Did your tests show evidence of pericarditis? Tbh i feel a bit vulnerable there not being any evidence for this diagnosis. I've been home for 24 hours and worried about the ongoing pain :( x

Short answer is yes, pericarditis can come with raised troponin.

Hi, Ihad myocarditis & pericarditis5 years ago with very elevated tropinin levels, this is quite normal for the condition. I was in hospital for nearly 3 weeks & recoveeing at home for 18months.

Take it slow & steady during your recovery please. Your heart has had a terrible shock & needs rest.

Ask questions like is my heart enlarged, is there any fluid build up, you will need a follow up scan to check all is recovering well so ask for an appointment if one doesn't come through.

Resting your heart is the most important thing. Many of us have found we have a good day & get carried away, over do it and suffer for it! One step forward & 3 back as they say!!! You may continue to experience some pains (poss neck, shoulder, back & chest) for some time. Each case is different & recovery time depends on severity of each case, mine was acute and I have permanent damage but that is unusual. Look after yourself, be kind to yourself & your heart & you will get there. Good luck in your recovery and to Openmind1 too.
