Fast AF/slow AF …symptoms

Can’t find the post now but we were discussing being symptomatic with AF & slow AF and what is what.

I saw my cardiologist yesterday & asked him about my very symptomatic fast AF & how many afibers have ongoing asymptotic AF … how come ?

He preferred to call fast AF “ rapidly conducted AF” … paroxysmal AF tends to be in younger patients ( included me at 55 😁)… faster rate and you feel it more as NSR in between episodes even if episodes daily like mine.

He said as I get older it will become AF all the time but the likelihood is it will settle at a slower rate ie 60-100 so gradually less / no symptoms.

Due to symptoms , rapidly conducted AF needs to be under control due to how it affects you. So I found this very interesting & thought I’d share it with you especially as it had come up on this forum.

My CT was fine which was great news, few bits and bobs on echo but not overly concerning as usual for PAF..,, now added in flecanide to work alongside the diltiazem. Fingers crossed this is going to work otherwise ablation is next on the list as I’m not a candidate for beta blockers & he’s not a fan of amiodarone.

Have a good weekend everyone, I’m very nervous about taking my first few flecanide tablets but he’s assured me this will work well . No scary stories please , trying to control my nerves.
