I have atrial fibrilation and was pot on Amiodarone I had to stop taking indapamide with it --my weight has increased by 6 pounds in 4 days I was 73.5 kg I am now 76 .9 I have only been on Amiodarone for 5 days can this drug cause weight gain .I am also on Ramipril. Its important i dont put on a lot of weight as I also have non alcoholic Liver disease .

hi Iv been on Amiodarone for nearly a year now not put on any weight taking it but it has effected my skin and eyes but it has got my heart under control

Sounds as if it might be fluid retention. Speak to your GP. A diuretic might help

I have been to GP he is adament its not fluid retention --I dont think they should have stopped my diuretic indapamide cold turkey after 10 years I think Ramiprimil may be the cause --Ihave a dry cough more breathless weight gain . My blood pressure has risen from 124/70 to 149/73 which can happen if you are taken off indapamide abruptly

I don't know if it causes weight gain, but there is one rare, but serious, possible side effect which is pulmonary fibrosis. I had Amiodarone for 6 months after 2 bouts of atrial fibrillation more than 20 years ago with no side effects whatsoever. However, a friend had her atrial valve replaced earlier this year and was prescribed Amiodarone. She developed a cough with breathlessness which, after various delays and investigations, turned out to be PF. By the time the drug was stopped the damage was done. As I said, this is rare, but I do believe anyone for whom it is prescribed should be advised to see their GP if they develop a cough or breathlessness.
