MRI Summary

Hi All

I was wondering if someone could help me with the results of my latest Cardiac MRI. I have intially been diagnosed with HCM and this was a 6 monthly scan. However the clinical comments in the report have got me worried.

The bit that has got me concerned is where it mentions significant MI in mid distal LAD territory .

Below is the whole section. Many many thanks

CLINICAL COMMENT:Predominantly concentric LVH which may simply be athletic-adaptive and/or hypertension-related. Additional mild septal LVH asymmetry - but this appearance is exaggerated by overlying prominent RV septal trabeculation which both prior echocardiography & CMR have measured across. Although subtle HCM phenotype remains a possibility (especially in context of abnormal ECG),  imaging findings seem  less definitive that previously expressed (pending genotyping will be useful). More certain is the presence of significant MI in mid-distal LAD territory not present on prior CMR  (January 2022 Wythenshawe) – patient should be re-questioned around possible ACS symptoms and/or unstable angina in the intervening period (dense extensive coronary calcification in prior CCS is corollary with this event). Re-evaluation with invasive coronary angiogram may be considered to establish anatomy – and in the interim, intense medical therapy recommended with aspirin & high-intensity statin advised if not already on.

You really should run things like this past your doctor, as they are trained to read these reports and have an understanding of the terminology used.

Reading this, I'd make an urgent appointment with the GP to clarify things - but it looks like they need to ask you some questions and do further tests.

Many thanks for your reply. I will contact my GP today while I wait to hear from the cardiologist .

Only one answer. Do not ask on here, speak to medical folk and I am sure that will be pretty soon. You will be put on meds as they suggest and expect an angiogram. It is good they found these things out and so lucky you had a MRI as it would have resulted in bad things I reckon.. You need to chase it if any delays. Any chest pains seek immediate help. Get the meds that you need like aspirin asap though.

Many thanks for your reply. I have spoken to my cardiologist receptionist and she will bring it to his attention hopefully. I also have an appointment with my GP to help me understand the report.

hi it’s super scary isn’t it. They send you the letters and you look at it and go into panic mode, all I can say is don’t Google as that is the worst thing to do. I hope your gp explains it In a way that we would understand. Good luck x

It is scary...i had to keep phoning my cardiologist for mri results and it took almost 4months only to find out that i had indeed suffered "2 minor heart attacks "and needed my stents re enforcing for a third time...always make sure you ask a doc what your report means and dont just leave it to them to neccessarily be the first to communicate xx tc
