Hello I’m just looking for some advice on pregnancy and giving birth with atrial tachycardia/svt I’ve been told I can have a baby but would need a plan and would need to be closely monitored as there are risks. Has anyone got any of their own experiences they could share with me please

Thank you

Hi there. First of hope your well and congratulations on your pregnncy. Sorry to hear of the situation your in. I was 36 weeks pregnant when i was diagnosed with sinus tachycardia back in 2019. Spent 5 days on a cardiac ward and the staff were fab. The midwife team came over to the ward everyday to listen in a baby too. I was instantly put on bisoprolol and was also told I needed a birth plan. I was induced at 40 weeks plus 3 days because of reduced baby movement. Had my waters broke but nothing happened so i had an early epidural and a drip and basically waited it out. I was also wired up to an ecg throughout. I delivered my son 9lb 6oz on 40weeks 6 days so alot of waiting it out 😁The early epidural was to keep my heart rate low and steady. One mistake they made though when they fitted the epidural they gave me a massive first initial dose then lay me flat on my back to feel my tummy. Then they quickly sat me bolt upright which caused a big drop in blood pressure and me feeling awful. They lowered me down and i was made to stay lying on my left until it stabilised. 2 days after delivery i checked my fitbit that id been wearing and throughout the whole process my heart rate stayed around 90-100 bpm. Not bad for labor.

Dont forget labor is roughly the equivalent of a marathon on a woman's body so by no means and easy ride.

I hope you get a plan sorted i didn't have alot of time to prepare but it went well. I asked about a c section when babe wasn't coming but was told no way.

Hello,

You can ask to be referred for pre pregnancy counselling. Most larger maternity units offer this type of service.

Here's an example of such a service.

Usually you will be cared for by a team of health professionals including a Cardiologist, Obstetrician and Midwife.

They will discuss with you your options and the safest way for your baby to be born, for both of you.

Good luck.
