I’ve had a HA and in HF and on the usual cocktail of meds. I’ve had a few hallucinations at night, this is new to me. It’s easy to blame drugs in this situation but I wondered if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

Hallucinations
Dear Andean
Welcome to the BHA site. Lots of good people are on this forum.
I got night terrors after the op. I had horrid frightening nightmares and some of them lasted after I woke up.
I found it essential not to think about them and to not discuss the details.
Mine eased away then left me after a few months.
I did not associate them with medication, more the shock to my brain.
Best wishes

I think some members have asked this question before and it's not uncommon to have bad dreams with some medication.
I have vivid dreams most nights, some quite disturbing about people or relatives who have passed away years ago. I think it is the bisoprolol medication I'm on. It bothers me sometimes.

Dear Lily
No doubt some patients are affected by the medication. My bad dreams started years ago, after a stroke, and I had not taken bisoprolol when these dreams took over.
Then I had OHS for which I was prescribed a low dose of bisoprolol . The nigh terrors started up but not as severe.
Delighted to say they have now gone away
I do hope you are getting to a stage when they no longer bother you
Best wishes

Dear Andian
Certainly the drugs can have this as a side effect.
Mine dreams I would say are enhanced more than hallucinating or nightmares. It may seem strange but I rather like them and its the first time that I can really remember my dreams the next day.
Talking with the heart team it seems that this is a regular side effect that they hear about.
If yours are troublesome maybe a chat with your Dr/Health team might be able to pinpoint which medication [ s ] is causing this and maybe there is an alternative to it or them.
Take care
I had a spate of hallucinations at night and put it down to anxiety re health (too much happening at once) and medication. I've slept with the hall light on for many months now and it's all stopped.

Yes anxiety a thought but don’t really think so in my case. I suppose the shock of everything could affect a part of the brain. I haven’t told my family, they’ll think I’m going nuts
I had to stop Avabradine as I was seeing black snakes and bars on the walls at night, the snakes were particularly bad in the hallway. I feel very guilty that previously my very elderly aunt was put on it and told me she could see snakes and bars on the wall, I just put it down to her advancing years and not the meds. I must admit if I wake up in the night and want a cup of tea I do put my slippers on to cross the hallway, you never know with snakes🙀
Amazing. I saw an actual large black spider in my room twice, from then I saw spiders which weren’t really there, then a bird. Twice I’ve seen my husband walk into my room, but not there. Thanks for all replies. I’m not really worried about it. I’m still breathing
I've had vivid, colourful dreams as long as I can remember (I'm 75) and can usually recall them the next morning. I see dead relatives, drive cars, swim, levitate and fly, find secret passages, staircases and lifts. I lead a much more exciting life asleep than awake😊. Just lately I have been shouting at people in my dreams who have annoyed me. Wether this is due to being prescribed an inhaler, on top of my other meds, is age related, or just me being a grumpy old woman I don't know, but at least I wake up.😊
