what have peoples experiences of an MRI been? I feel the one I had last week was not great the radiographer had zero people skills ,he basically shouted at me for moving ( I didn't realise I had moved) . I've got fibromyalgia so I think my muscles were spasming and I also have a bad back. He was very blunt and not one member of the team there was in the least empathic.I wasn't expecting a stress MRI so that was an experience!!!

Dear guinecat

So sorry that you had such a bad experience of something that in its self can be stressful .

I cannot answer for your team and how they treated you, but whatever the pressure that they are under it is wrong for you to come away with such a horrible feeling.

I have noticed that over the years the change in the NHS of the way it treats its clients and yes the blunt approach seems to be creeping Ito most depts.

At the end of the day you just need those results and hopefully that side of things will be perfect, but I totally agree with you that care has changed and not always { as in your case } for the better.

Thinking of you

that’s unfortunate. You got a bad deal. I have had much much better experiences. And when I was admitted for the heart op the staff were fabulous.

Better luck next time

We all know what huge pressure the NHS is under. Some Departments still trying to give us a service with 40% understaffing.

We also, understandably, under pressure when we have heart problems, and some find some investigations like MRI particularly difficult. I’ve had a few, not a comfortable, experience but always courteously treated.

i hope you had a pre-assessment where your bad back and muscle spasms could, and should, have been discussed. They are used to helping people with such problems so they can get good images which will help your care.

I am sorry you felt bluntly treated.

Sadly no pre procedure questions very rushed

That was not nice to put it mildly. My experiences were not like yours. To try to block out the noise, I was given earphones with piped music of my choice. I chose Bach pieces and I actually nodded off for a minute, until I was asked if I was asleep. The technicians both times were very good.

I've had numerous normal MRI scans , usually on my spine. I now have a problem with them so I have CT scans instead but all but one MRI has been fine. On the one bad one I started to feel really bad so I pressed the button for them to get me out- and pressed it and pressed i t and pressed it. By the time they stopped it I was in total panic but hey just said "Oh we thought you were lying on the button. Why say they can get you out if they are going to ignore it? Apart from that the staff have been lovely, have offered sedation, even had fans blowing on me so I didn't get hot.

The mri I had was very good. Even my cardiologist was there as well. I was concerned to begin with but it was fine. The staff where very good. Unfortunatly I had to have the music turned off as I could not hear the instructions very well. But it was fine. It was not as bad as I feared. It is a shame that the horrible virus has caused so much disruption to the nhs. And the staff are under so much pressure.

Hi guineacat. Sorry you had that experience with the Staff! Must have been awful :(. I had to have an MRI Scan some years ago for another condition, not heart related. I absolutely hated it, not because of the Staff though, they were great. It was because I can be very 'Claustrophobic'. I just couldn't wait to get out of there!!

Personally, very positive. The staff were supportive in my case and the MRI didn't take as long as expected. Glenfield Hospital, Leicester.

You need to call the manager of that department and tell them what happened to you.

I have to say I seem to get bombarded with 'how did we do? requests anytime I have something significant done at an NHS unit. If you have one of these then perhaps use it to express your displeasure at your treatment.

Failing that there are usually ways of making a formal complaint about any NHS service if you feel a complaint is necessary to either get it off your chest or perhaps promote a change in the way things are done for others to benefit. Just research it for the unit where you had the service provided, or perhaps just ring the unit switchboard to find out how to do it.

I hate MRIs - suffering from issues arising from being in an incident in my younger years I simply can’t do them.

I was lucky enough having endured a couple of slip discs to be given an open/seated mri which the surgeon believed to give a better diagnosis on back/spinal issues.

But for me if it’s a traditional MRI - I can’t do.
