Probiotics

Does anybody know if it is safe to take probiotics whilst taking apixaban. I've just finished 3 consecutive courses of antibiotics and wanted to try to improve my gut health post antibiotics. Just to say that I had an ablation in May for flutter. Many thanks.

Well I did take a week's course of probiotics after taking 100 antibiotics for skin infection. had to stop after a week due to very loose bowels day and night (lost half a stone) before taking apixaban I had taken probiotics although not the same ones and had no side effects.

yes I agree about the diet particularly low sugar as that can feed an overgrowth of yeast which antibiotics can cause. I had a really bad overgrowth of yeast in my scalp after the antibiotics. don't forget the sugar in food which is added. I have cereal with no sugar in it Rude Health puffed oats puffed wheat Kallo puffed rice. veg is better for you than too much fruit (small amount of berries per day)

good luck

i ve just finished a 3rd course of antibiotics for a skin infection and now have covid. The stomach issues are probably due to the antibiotics but am sure the covid isn't helping either. Hopefully it will resolve soon.

I'm on apixaban and have taken pro biotics following a course of hefty antibiotics with no adverse effect. I took pro bio advanced for a couple of weeks.

It didn't occur to me to consult with my pharmacist on this occasion, but a pharmacist is well placed to advise if you're concerned about mixing anti-coagulants with pro biotics.
