Azathioprine

My experience of the side effects of Azathioprine over the last two weeks. Prior to taking this medication I thought I was reasonably fit for a 70 year old, went to the gym lifting, pushing and pulling light weights with lots of reps and walking jogging on the treadmill alternating every minute for a minimum twenty minutes.

Within two hours of taking my first pill (25mg) my legs felt heavy and I seemed to go into slow motion, felt like I didn't want to do anything. This lasted between six to nine hours during the first week. Now in the second week and the effect is still about six hours but it has really affected my gym work. I might as well be lifting cotton wool, the weights are now minimal and the treadmill is walk three or four minutes before attempting a jog which is now very hard, legs getting tired very quickly, manage the minute but then back to a three minute walk.

Hi thefullback,

I'd never heard of this med.......so looked it up. I couldn't see any prescribing for heart conditions.........so looked at your profile, and see that you have auto-immune hepatitis.

You might get more response on the British Liver Trust forum here on health unlocked.
