Can anyone help please. My husband and i have a cruise booked for November this year which was supposed to have taken place 2 years ago for my 60th Birthday. My husband had a triple heart bypass in 2016 and a pacemaker fitted.

Since then he has had problems with breathlessness when walking but the medication he is now on has improved this and he doesn't get breathless anymore. He has had 2 TIA but nothing for over 2 years now. He can walk okay and apart from what is going on inside is fine. I cannot get travel insurance. I have just tried medicaltravelcompared>co.uk and they say they cannot find anything for me.. Has anyone else had these problems and can anyone else help me at all. We are so looking forward to going on our first ever cruise and relaxing and spending some much needed quality time together as we both work full time.

many thanks

This can be a problem .You are not alone. Many here are asking similar questions. You must declare all your husbands health issues in order that your insurance is valid for your needs should something happen. ....and especially if your husband needs to be flown home.Maybe those who have had success in finding an insurer will give advice. My own experience, and without too many health issues, is to find insurance before booking the holiday. Even if you do find an insurer it maystill cost a lot .

I have just been quoted £1000 which is such a lot of money for a 2 week holiday.

I feared from what you had written about your husbands health that you might get this level of quote.By chasing around to other insurers you may be able to get that down a bit but I suspect it may still be high.

There are a few that will provide travel insurance. Staysure is the one i use. Its reasonably priced compared to some. My friend uses it and they provide cover even though she has cancer. The other one i have used is Allclear.

I am travelling to Florida in a few months, and surprisingly its my arthritis that seems to cause me the higher price. Give Staysure a call or use the internet. You will find annual insurance is cheaper than a single trip. If you book annual then you need to take it out from now rather than the day you travel so that you are covered for cancellations straight away.

Hello, have you tried the gocompare site? I have recently had a quote from Select and Protect for a holiday for £668.00. Not sure where you are cruising to but I am hoping to go the the USA on a cruise which I think can put the costs up, plus we are hoping to go for 3 weeks. I had a 4 x bypass a year ago. Not sure if this helps, but I do hope you are able to get things sorted. I am sure it would be wonderful for your holiday and first cruise. Take care, Judi

Have you tried AllClear Travel - they were great when I arranged my travel insurance. And not stupidly expensive either.

It can be extremely expensive, my mum has AFib, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and heart failure she went to the Bahamas in June and her insurance was £1400 😳

I'm looking to go long haul travelling in the coming year and am horrified by the cost of insurance. My plan is to use a company called Insurefortravel as they offer a policy that excludes pre-existing conditions. Not for everyone but I'm more worried about accidents and missed flights than an exploding heart.

This was the story as appeared in the Sunday Times. Cunard insisted on `cover` before the cruise. At the Wythenshawe Hospital Support Group (Pacemakers, Defibbs, etc.) we had a li

of relevant insurers prepared to cover us. A regular pain in the a..!

If you attending a hospital ask your PALS team.

I had similar issues getting travel insurance. Eventually found a company Puffin Insurance which covered my wife and myself for a cruise. you fill out all of the preexisting conditions and Bobs your uncle. Mind you pretty much every insurance company will decline any preexisting condition if you tell them you are waiting treatment or results or investigation for something, no matter what it is about...

good luck finding insurance and enjoy the cruise.
