Mine I consider an odd story. I had a couple of chest pains whilst running during the winter lockdown. And by couple it was twice . I spoke to my doctor as a precaution.
They initially thought weather related asthma . But organised a scan to rule out other things. One scan was x-rays of the heart organised throughout the heart clinic.
I thought nothing of it really. Carried on my daily business. Gym, running etc. Pains had gone. However this scan showed a potential narrowing of one artery. So they sent me for an angiogram I was on the waiting list for about a year.
I just carried on life. No further symptoms. How angiogram showed that my heart was indeed a mess and I needed a triple bypass which was done swiftly and now I'm in recovery.
I think there are many different paths that lead to angiogram. Mine seemed insignificant and I didn't feel like I was suffering or struggling at all.
Hi Kenbat,
There are many reasons that a cardiologist could call up an angiogram for. It is the best way to see what is going on with the cardiovascular system and will provide your cardiologist with all the information required to make a full assessment. It would be daft to speculate at this stage. Just stay positive. You are getting the best diagnostic process available and the appropriate action, whatever that may be, will be forthcoming in due course.
I had my angiogram when I was having a heart attack due to a blocked right coronary artery. One clot removed, two stents inserted and I was back on the road to recovery. The doctor did not just focus on the situation in hand, but looked at my whole system which indicated I had moderate disease elsewhere and so I was referred for bypass surgery. As they say, the rest is history....
All the best,
Gerald
Morning Kenbat
An angiogram is known as the gold standard for diagnosis in heart issues, this is normally given after other tests have been given. Unless you have had heart attack and maybe you will need stents.
I had mine after an echocardiogram showed a problem with my aortic valve. The angiogram showed this problem clearer plus I needed bypass surgery.
Please try not to worry, it will give your cardiologist a better idea what is going on and how best to move forward.
Best wishes Pauline
Hi Pauline - not worried about procedure my worry is that they do not do one! Thanks for reply
Ken
My husband is waiting for another angiogram in September. He had one in November where he had stents as blocked artery. He is having chest pains starting in his jaw going into his chest and down his one arm. He takes his gtn spray but does not work he also takes 4 aspirins. It happens for no reason at all. So those are his symptoms and he is also down as urgent but has to wait.
Perhaps you should say what your symptoms are?
