I have just joined and read a lot of your posts on Atrial Fibrillation with interest ad thought you might like to hear my experiences. I woke up one night in 2016 with a pulse of 160 against a normal constant of 2016. Next morning a trip to the GP and I was immediately sent to A and E given medication and 2 months later given Cardioversion, a shock from a defibrillator under anaesthetic, didn't feel a thing and my pulse was back into rhythm and I was fine for 2 years when it happened again another Cardioversion and back into rhythm for another 2 years and another event with the same result. I am again in AF and waiting to see a consultant hopefully for another Cardioversion
I am writing this because mainly the posts seem to be of people who have had ablation rather than cardioversion. I appreciate that if the latter does not work one would have to have an ablation.
My health history may be of interest. when I was 26 I had to have a medical for a job where it was found I had high blood pressure and a scar on my kidneys. I was told at the time that I would have heart problems in later life and since then I have never been able to get life insurance. When I was 62 my kidneys finally failed but luckily I got a transplant. Shortly after the operation I got ectopic heart beats which were quite frightening at the time but probably caused by changes in my system but only lasted for about 18 months and in 2016 I first got AF. Fortunately all tests so far reveal that I do not have heart is healthy apart from the AF. I am in my 87thyear so I do feel that I have been extremely lucky especially as I was a heavy smoker until the age of 40.
