If your Doctor or Consultant has prescribed both these medications to take then yes you do need to take them both :-) x

These drugs work in different ways so if you've been prescribed both I expect they feel theure the best combination for you. I suggest discussing it with your GP/cardiologist especially if you're getting too many side effects. Good luck!

Your doctor should be able to answer this question for you and provide the exact reason why both are needed to treat your particular condition.

What I know, as a pharmacologist, is that the two drugs have very different pharmacological and physiological properties. Amlodipine is what is called a calcium channel blocker and it is often used as a first line agent for reducing blood pressure. Bisoprolol is a beta blocker that is selective for the heart. It is mainly used to reduce the workload of the heart so it is often given in combination with other drugs to treat angina and coronary heart disease.

Only your doctor can tell why both have been prescribed but it’s reasonable to assume you need to take both.
